That person

That person. Look at them.

Look at the way they thrash their legs. (They're in the grasp of a giant.)

Ah, they're screaming. That would be understandable for their current predicament. (That monster's hand is nearing its mouth.)

They're struggling. (Its jaw opens. The grin is haunting. The person begs for help)

Its jaw shuts, and blood splatters like sparks of a flame.

What an unfortunate person. (Their legs lay on the ground, the torso they were once attached to, down the throat of a Titan.)

"Shoyo."

Titan. It was the Titan's fault.

"Shoyo?"

I must kill it.

"Shoyo, wake up."

I'll kill them all.

"SHOYO!"

Eyes opening, I groan. My mom stands at the edge of my bed, blanket pulled off of me. "Why are you so hard to wake up?" She questions, although her irritated tone came off more gentle than exasperated. For some reason, her motherly tone made my heart sink in homesickness.

Homesick? But I never left.

Ignoring the sensation in my chest, and the daze of being awoken, I left my room alongside my mother and sat in the living room for lunch. Natsu across from me, smiling happily as she ate her rice. "Morning, Natsu," I greet.

I realized that I couldn't hear my own voice. "Good morning Shoyo-niisan!" Apparently, she could. I brush it off. I was just tired, that's all.

That's all.

The clink of a bowl being placed on the table brings me back into focus, and my mother smiles kindly as she sits next to Natsu.

"Thanks, Okaa-san." I nod, and dig in. An egg cracked over fresh rice, my favorite. I pause. Something felt missing.

I looked up from my bowl to see my mom sitting up straight up, as stiff as a board. Her face showed no enthusiasm. I stop chewing.

"Okaa-san?"

Natsu sits up beside her, a frown slowly creeping onto her features. I felt like I watched a monster crawl out of a hole. "You forgot something, Shoyo," She says, her voice flat and monotonous. Nothing like the child I knew her as. Nothing like a child at all.

"I forgot something?"

"Yes."

Her voice grew colder. Older. I swallow my food.
