POV: KEIJI AKAASHI.
The iridescent shimmer of moonlight against a lake was the last thing I expected to lay my eyes on upon arriving at the Cadets. But be it as it may, all things leading to this moment were never planned, anyway.
I found myself awake late at night, unable to sleep. The beds were uncomfortable, the air felt heavy, and just about everybody in the room was snoring. So I decided to step out for a bit, maybe walk around to get my mind off of things.
That's when I stumbled across a forest. I would consider myself a rational person, which means I would usually turn back around and actually return to the barracks. So, I did. But of course, someone was in my way. Holding a lantern, and wearing a cloak.
Reiner Braun was his name, I believe.
"You're Keiji, right? What are you doing up this late?" He asked, arms crossed and chest puffed out like his height could intimidate me. We weren't that far off in height either. I'm also a volleyball player- I'm always surrounded by people taller than me.
I wasn't intimidated. If anything, It was just awkward.
"Yes, It's Keiji. Keiji Akaashi. And I could ask you the same thing, Mr. Braun."
He chuckled. "So you do remember my name, hotshot. And no need to be so formal- Just call me Reiner."
I couldn't help but be skeptical of him.
"Okay, Reiner."
"So, wanna explain what you're doing out here?"
Seeing that he wouldn't answer my question, I decided to answer anyway. He did ask first, after all.
"I couldn't sleep, so I decided to take a stroll."
"You too, huh?"
For some odd reason, his response didn't sound as genuine as it should've been. I didn't question it, but I did stay aware of it.
Reiner proceeded to talk. "It's kinda annoying to sleep in a room full of snorers, and considering there's now six more... I just needed to get out a bit."
"I see."
An awkward pause ensued, and I contemplated going back to bed- Just before Reiner cleared his throat with a small grunt.
"You see, there's this place I usually hang out at night when I can't sleep, or when I'm bored, or whatever. It's a lake on the other side of the forest- Wanna go with me for a bit?"
I consider myself a rational person.
Which is why I don't know why I agreed at all.
We arrived at the edge of a cliff- It wasn't all that tall, nor was the fall steep. Yet I felt like I was on the top of the world. The moonlight painted a scene that I could only ever see in movies.
