Alivia's POV

I groaned as I rolled over to shut off my alarm, rubbing the sleep from my eyes that adjusted to the light streaming in through the gaps in my curtains. Cassie, Quinn, and Mason helped me move into a tiny, one-room apartment in the middle of Midtown a few days back, and today was the first day of rehearsal for Newsies. The clock by my bed told me it was 7:30 a.m., giving me about two hours to get ready before I needed to leave to catch the subway to the rehearsal building.

My phone buzzed from its place on my windowsill, and I reached over and unplugged it to read my notifications.

Mason O'Connell

Good morning Allie!

Good morning! How's class?

Calc blows. How's the Big
Apple?

There're no grocery stores
here and I have to take
the subway everywhere.

You poor thing.

I gotta go. I expect
hourly updates.

I can't text in rehearsal,
but I'll keep you posted.

See you in December!

See you in December.

I rolled out of bed and opened my curtains, taking in the city landscape. All things considered, the view from my apartment window was pretty good. My laptop was miraculously still sitting on my bed from last night's video chat, and two small plants rested on the windowsill. Cassie and Quinn love to tease me about my inability to keep plants alive, so we all figured they'd die before the tour started, anyway. I had a daybed up against a window, and the view was nice, so I snapped a picture to send to the group chat.

Thanks!!!!!!!

I set my phone back on the windowsill, closed my curtains, and pulled my long hair out of my face with a hair elastic that sat next to one of my plants. I crossed the apartment to my dresser and pulled out a pair of high-waisted muted purple leggings and a light gray tank top, and I changed into those, made my bed, plugged in my laptop, and opened my curtains again. Walking into my apartment's bathroom, I used a few hairpins and some hairspray to pull my hair back into a bun to keep it out of my face for today's rehearsal.
