[ Hawk's POV ]

I walked into school with Miguel once again and there I saw Sam and Brett talking at her locker. I didn't know where Demetri was, but I didn't really want to worry about him today. I was planning on asking Brett for his number later, but I needed a good opportunity to do it. Miguel said he could distract Sam for the time being if I wanted to catch him alone, but I assumed it would be fine if I just asked in class.

We had gotten there later than expected so the bell rang right as we walked through the doors and we made our way to class. Once we were by our rooms, we split up with our usual nod and I walked in and sat next to Brett.

"Still have that pencil?" he smiled a little, but didn't look at me.

"Actually," I said, taking out the pencil and handing it to him. Attached was a small sticky note with my number on it.

"I got my own," I took out a different pencil and began copying down what was on the board.

I glanced over at Brett and saw him blushing a little and trying to hold back a smile, but he was failing miserably. He put the pencil away, but took the note off and put it in his pocket.

"I guess I'll be saving this for later."

We both smiled at each other and I could feel the tension rising by the second. I wanted to just run out of the classroom and take a second to breathe, but that would mean leaving his side and I really didn't want to do that.

I didn't understand how someone I barely even know could make me like this, but I guess I'd just have to get to know him then.

The class ended after 45 agonizing minutes and we packed up all our stuff. Brett and I hadn't said another word to each other, but we exchanged a couple of glances here and there throughout the lesson.

I stood up to leave, but Brett put his hand on my arm before I could walk away.

"Would you wanna hang out later maybe?" this was the first time I saw an awkward side to him. It was really cute.

"Sure, just text me," I winked at him, and then went to meet up with Miguel who had yet again been watching the whole ordeal.

Once we were far enough away from the class he held his hand out for me to high five it.

"SCORE!"

"Dude?? What did I say about being quiet"

"What? I can't be excited for my best friend?"

"You can be as excited as you want as long as you keep it to yourself," I said rolling my eyes.

We walked for a little longer and then once again split up to get to our next classes. I couldn't help, but think about Brett. I didn't really know how I felt about him yet, but I was pretty excited to figure it out.

*Lunch*

[ Demetri's POV ]

Yasmine and I hadn't spoken since our fight, but I was getting extremely impatient waiting for an answer. I know I said she needed to figure it out, but I didn't want to just sit here waiting for her to make up her mind on if she actually cared about me or not. I knew I had to break up with her and I had to do it here, and now.

I walked over to her table where she was sitting with Moon and a couple of the other popular girls.

"Yasmine," I said in an angry tone.

She looked around flustered and then quietly responded.

"Demetri, we're in the cafeteria, what do you want?"

"I want an answer. Now."

"Can't we just talk about this somewhere else? People are looking."

"Good! Let them look!" I shouted. I was pissed and I knew it was wrong, but I didn't know what else to do and my anger was getting the best of me.

"Ok fine, you want to do this here?" she stood up, clearly enraged by the scene I was making.

"You are a nerd and a loser and if you can't accept the fact that I want our relationship to be different than what you had originally wanted when you were pining over me for YEARS then I guess we're done," she tried to storm off, but I grabbed onto her arm.

"Oh no little miss popular I'm the one dumping you here. I always thought that deep down there was some kind of soul behind your icy personality, but I guess I was wrong. You're a bitch inside and out and always will be!" I snapped.

"You think you can hurt me?" she said as she looked around the cafeteria.

Brett had just entered the room and was standing right behind her trying not to stare, but not doing the best job of it. Yasmine eyed him and then walked over to where he was standing. His eyes widened confused, but then she turned back to me.

"Well think again," she said and then she aggressively pressed her lips against his.

He looked shocked and had no idea what was going on. After a long kiss just on her end, she pulled away and made direct eye contact with me.

"You were never anything more than a sorry loser," and then she strutted out of the cafeteria with everyone's eyes directly on her.

I turned around to watch her exit in complete shock and saw Miguel and Hawk standing there. Miguel was looking right at me, but I could see Hawk's eyes focused on someone else.

Brett.

[ Hawk's POV ]

Miguel and I were running late to lunch after I had to help him jam his backpack into his locker because he didn't feel like carrying it anymore, but right when we stepped into the cafeteria we saw everyone standing around staring at something.

We walked to the middle of the crowd and standing right in the middle of the cafeteria I saw something and my stomach turned in knots.

Brett was kissing Yasmine.

I felt like I was gonna throw up. Miguel was looking at Demetri, but I couldn't take my eyes off of Brett. Yasmine pulled away first and then said something to Demetri, but I was too focused on Brett to hear it.

Demetri turned to us as she stormed out and Miguel put his hand on my back.

"Do you want to get out of here?" he whispered in my ear.

I didn't know what to say. It felt like I couldn't breathe. Before I could respond Brett made eye contact with me and it snapped me out of my trance.

I turned to Miguel and slowly nodded. He put his arm around me, we turned around, and walked out of the now completely silent cafeteria.
