CHAPTER 24 - TWISTED FATE

Our closest friend...
Dwaynell.
He sacrificed his own life to save everyone of us. He's the son of the mastermind who saved us, and betrayed his own kind.
Dwaynell, how could you do that?
His laughters, his cries of joys, his lessons, his sobs, and his smiles. We'll miss everything about him. We will cherish and treasure every memories we had with him.
W-We don't even have his picture. We weren't able to take a picture with him.
"D-Dwaynell..." Dwight uttered and sat on the ground with his fists clenched and his jaws tightened.
We all felt so weak, physically and emotionally. We wanted to rest, but these demons won't let us. Dwaynell's body was dragged away from us. We wanted to give him a decent funeral but how?
"Tsk. Tsk. Tsk. Tama na yung arte," said the killer.
Again.
I stood up and looked at him with a blazing gaze.
"You got what you wanted," I said coldly. "Now let us go."
He and his companions laughed which made me crease my forehead.
"Asa kayo," one said. "Sa palagay niyo, papayag kami na makakatakas kayo mula dito? At isupling sa lahat ang mga pinanggagawa namin?"
I was alarmed when he clicked a button-like-remote and spoke there.
"Finish them."
The lions growled and opened their enormous jaws, salivas dripping from inside.
These people. They never learn.
"Run! Umakyat kayo sa mga puno! Bilisan niyo!" sigaw ko..
They panicked and ran away. They immediately climbed on top of the trees and I did the same. I was about to climb up when I saw Dwight from a distance, frozen in his place. He wasn't moving and the lions were targeting him.
"Dwight!" sigaw ko. He didn't bother to throw a glance at me, and didn't respond. "Dwight Bravier Sepanton umakyat ka na! Do you think na matutuwa si Dwaynell kapag nalaman niyang ayaw mo nang mabuhay?! At least respect your best friend's last words!"
I saw how he closed his eyes and looked at the lions approaching him. Agad siyang umakyat sa isang malapit na puno at umakyat na din ako. I need to come up with a plan to escape from here and defeat those killers if necessary, or else, Dwaynell's sacrifice would be useless.
"Kahit na umakyat kayo diyan, hindi kami aalis mula rito hangga't hindi kayo napapatay." tatawa-tawang saad ng killer. He was playing with the button-like-remote on his palm while waiting for us to come down.
