CHAPTER 17: KEEP THE FAITH BURNING

BEATRIXIA

"Oh, girl, what's with you? I'm just kidding!" Mrs. Ramos said.

Dwight and I looked at each other, both confused with what she said.

"W-what?" I asked, still holding a weapon.

"You guys must run away from here, this is just a disguise," She whispered to us and pointed her back. "Go on with the plan but hide first there, sa dulo. I'll do the honor here, trust me, trust me."

I chuckled and sat down. I heard myself and my friends laugh with the thought that we've gone so far.

Nanahimik kami for some minutes while breathing for life. We're looking like we've been running for 48 and more hours just to survive an apocalypse. We're all sweating and heavily breathing. We're gulping like we're craving for food. We're all tired.

He weakly chuckled.

"We don't have any choice," Dwight responded. "Either we die in exhaustion, or we die in their knives," He added.

"Dwaynell, are you okay now?" I asked him, he's sweating like us, he just nodded as a response.

"Nakokonsensya ako," Biglang sabi ni Riann. "I'm sure I haven't kill anyone, I just hit and beat them as a self-defense, of course, but nakokonsensya akong makita kayong... p-pumapat--"

"Stop," I said. "I... can't hear my sins." I gulped.

I stood up. Tears kept falling from my eyes onto my cheeks.

"Stop arguing, it won't help," Dwight advised.

"Then what would help? Hm? Killing? Would their sins go away and be forgiven and forgotten with another couple of sins? Could they change their jobs and lifestyle by making them die?!" Riann said, crying silently.

"Hindi rin naman tayo mase-save ng takot mo," I told her.

"Nagmamatapang lang rin naman ako para sa 'yo," She fought back again.

"Anong ibig-sabihin mo do'n?"

A moment of silence came out. I just hear their breaths, heavy breathing, sobs, gulps, and silent whimpers.

"Ang selfish mo na kasi, Bea," She wiped her tears away.

I scoffed, "Ako pa talaga?" I said in a whisper way.
