I woke up clutching my head.  What had happened?

My mouth felt like it had been stuffed with cotton balls while my head had a few construction crews banging away.  I slowly opened my eyes only to wince at the light.

I tried remembering how I had gotten here but every time I tried to think my head would throb more.  Where were my mates?

The door slammed open and Romulus strode in, Suadela on his arm.  Why was she here?  "Romulus," I slurred.  "What's going on?"

"Poor, innocent Leila," Suadela cooed.  "Romulus was never yours."

"Romulus..?"  He just stood there, glassy eyed, staring straight ahead.  "Are you drunk again," I demanded incredulously.

"Of course he is!  He's been on the Witch's Brew ever since he met you - it was the only way he could stomach looking at you," she sneered.

"B-but," I stammered as my eyes filled with tears.  It was so hard to think when I felt like this.  "What did you do to me," I whispered.

"They used chloroform on you and tied you to the bed.  I just enjoyed the show," she said, smirking evilly as she reached out and patted my head.

I jerked my head back, scowling.  "Don't touch me," I hissed.

"That's no way to speak to your Luna," she crowed.

"Why am I still here?  Where are Remus and Coinin," I demanded angrily as I strained against the ropes.  "Why can't I escape, what are these," I demanded.

I tried to feel for my wolf, but it was as if she had never been, as if I had always been human.  "What did you do to me?"

"Oh, that," she asked as she examined her blood red nails.  "Have you ever heard of Minerva's Weave," she drawled lazily.

"You - you bitch," I breathed.  Minerva's Weave was a cloth that drained wolves, even Alphas, of all their abilities, leaving them weak.  It was made Yew wood fibers, smeared with a mix of lead, mercury and silver, created under a blue moon.  Left exposed long enough, a werewolf would lose their powers and eventually die.

The strongest Alpha might last a year, while an Omega might last two weeks at most.  It was banned from use by the National Lykan Convention in 2163.  It was so rare that even hunter's didn't know of it's existence.

"Why are you doing this Romulus," I whispered.

Suadela cackled as she draped herself over my mate.  "Oh honey!  He doesn't even know what's happening.  Don't you know anything about Witch's Brew when it's mixed with Dragon's Breath," she purred, eyes glinting.

My eyes widened at that.  Witch's Brew may not affect us long-term, but Dragon's breath did.  Dragon's Breath was made by steeping fire opals in a mixture of mercury and silver in a lead cauldron and letting it simmer for three weeks.  After that, one would sprinkle in powdered Veela heart and let it simmer for another week.  Once that was done, you had to expose the mix to a Dragon's heat for six months straight.

If properly brewed, the powdered result was undetectable.  While it was just as dangerous as Minerva's Weave, it became far worse when mixed with Witch's Brew.  One became quite susceptible to other's suggestions and it worked so slowly that it was impossible to notice un til it was too late.

When you added a hair from someone's head, that person would be able to control them.

"What have you done," I whispered in horror as I began to struggle against the rope once more.

"Nothing that concerns you," she sneered, soon, you will be out of the picture and I will be the Luna, as I should have been - as well as the only mother that your pups have ever known.

"Oh Romulus," I whispered sadly.

"Your other mates are...otherwise occupied," she continued, bored.  "They are taking care of a convenient rogue attack and foolishly left Romulus here to watch over you.  We're going to have so much fun bonding," she grinned.

"I-I'm pregnant," I whispered, looking down at my stomach in wonder.

"Yes," she snapped.  "Inconveniently so, I might add.  Don't worry, I'll take care of them as if they were my own.  Until mine can replace yours."

"You can only become pregnant with your mates child," I whispered.

"They are my mates," she screamed.  "They are obviously confused!"

I stared at her in horror as she stood there, chest heaving, fists clenched, with a crazed look in her eyes.  She took a deep breath, then smoothed down her green satin dress before blanking her face.

"You should live just long enough to bear their pups."

"I'll die," I cried, horrified.

"Yes, that was the idea," she drawled carelessly.  "Do try and make yourself comfortable my dear,  I have heard that a mother's stress can have...adverse affects on a baby."

"No!  Please!  I 'll do anything!"

She looked me up and down slowly.  "You have nothing left yto offer me.  Soon, I will rise and take my rightful place.  You just sit there and let our children grow in you, nice and strong."

"You're crazy," I said in disbelief.  "Romulus might be drugged, but Remus and Coinin will not let this happen!"

"Not if they find out," she agreed with me easily.  "Good thing they'll be gone for a year to help your former pack.  Quite convenient, actually.  Luckily they left you here in Romulus' care---in other words, they unwittingly left you in my hands to do with as I will."

My eyes widened at that.  How long had she been planning this for?

Without another word, she turned on her heel, grabbing Romulus' arm as she did.  "Sleep well," she cackled.  "Come along my love," she added to Romulus.

"Romulus...please," I whispered.

He stopped where he was, shaking his head, then turned to look at me.  "Leila..?  What's going on," he croaked.

Suadela tugged at his arm harder, causing him to stumble before he managed to regain his balance.  She impatiently waved something under his nose which caused his eyes to once more gloss over as she sent a smirk my way.

"Come along love," she cooed.  "I know how to make you feel better," she said slightly louder as she stroked his arm.

"Leila," he groaned as he leaned into her.

I scrunched my brows at his behavior.  Why was he calling her Leila?  We looked nothing alike.

Before I could open my mouth, the door slammed shut, leaving a ringing silence in their wake as I looked after them hopelessly.

This wasn't the end.  I would fight her to my last breath.

I had more to lose than ever now.
