"Hello," I rasped oh-so-sexily.
"Where are," demanded one of my recently acquired mates, Remus. "We tried calling your home phone like earlier but no one answered."
"Seriously," I groaned. "Couldn't you have called me in the morning?"
"Don't speak to us in that tone," another voice growled. Were they all listening in? That sounded like Romulus...
They must have put it on speaker. "What's wrong," a third voice, Coinin, chimed in. It was to early for this. "You never answered my question," Remus interrupted Coinin.
"What question," I sighed.
"Where are you? Are you with that Beta pup?"
I started laughing. I couldn't help it; not only did they have nothing to worry about with Zhongshan, but I wasn't in the mood for their possessive bullcrap. I mean, I usually wasn't, but I wasn't going to bother with a façade with everything else going on.
"No, I'm with Anubis, you know---"
"Was she laughing at us," Romulus added indignantly. I pinched the bridge of my nose. All I had wanted was to at least attempt to go back to sleep.
"Who is...Anubis," Romulus hissed. "You're ours, our mate! Where is he? Where are you?"
"I'm at the pack house," I said slowly. What was up his but? "Why are you so worked up, I'm just with---"
"We'll be right there," Remus called. I heard shuffling as I attempted to finish my sentence.
"No you won't Romulus, that isn't necessary. I don't want you here."
There was a silence on the other end. "You don't want us," came Coinin's quiet voice.
"What? No, I mean yes!"
"Well which is it," Romulus barked. "Yes or no? Is this Anubis pup the problem," he growled possessively. I heard something smash in the background, causing me to jump. "Fuck!"
Oh, so that was the problem. I couldn't help myself and started giggling. "You think...that's my Uncle, Alpha Anubis!"
"Well why are you there?"
Where they seriously jealous of me spending time with my uncle? I sobered up at his question even as I snorted at their antics. "I'm taking care of him. He-he has Cancer. Multiple Myeloma."
"What's that?"
"She just said Romulus, it's Cancer you dingus," Remus interrupted.
"Cool it you two, now isn't the time," came Coinin's deep, quiet voice. "Is there anything we can do for you?"
"Yeah, like make you feel better," came Romulus' suggestive voice.
"First of all Romulus; seriously? Secondly, no not at the moment Coinin. I don't think I can handle Romulus and Remus right now anyways."
"But you would like it," Romulus protested.
Good Goddess, I really didn't need this. "I'll call you in the morning. Goodnight." I said firmly before I hung up, then went to turn my phone off.
I heard Remus yell at me not to hang up as I did. Oh well, they'd live.
The phone immediately started ringing again before I had a chance. Pinching the bridge of my nose once more, I squeezed my eyes shut.
"Hello," I answered.
"You hung up on me, on us!"
"That's the general idea," I drawled as a yawn escaped me. I looked at my nails as Remus talked. I should paint them coral next time I thought to myself.
"Leila? Leila! Are you listening to me?"
"Mhmm, sure," I automatically replied. I wasn't.
"I'm your mate and---"
"Unfortunately," I muttered.
He growled at that. "You need to listen to and respect us," Romulus added.
"I do, do I?" I was paying attention now. My voice came out low, dangerous.
Elisheva didn't like how disrespectful he was being. I felt her attempting to take over, my body shuddering as I forced her back.
Not now Elisheva, I begged
I felt her pacing in the back of my mind. We need to teach them to respect us, she growled. I felt the growl make it's way from my own lips, my chest reverberating. She was attempting to force her way through, clawing at the mental cage I had temporarily forced her into.
How about I let you teach them and their wolves a lesson next time we see each other instead, I attempted to bargain with her.
She paused at that, pondering. You'll give me full command, she finally demanded. You won't put any restraints on me?
I easily agreed to this, as I wouldn't normally mind. I just was so exhausted and I'd rather keep the call short. Yes.
She gave me a happy grin, tail wagging, before receding to the back of my mind. I waited a moment before letting my mental walls in and tuning back into the conversation.
"Why are you both so stupid," Coinin groaned.
"I'm not stupid," Remus growled.
"Why hasn't she responded to us yet," Romulus interrupted. "Leila?"
"What," I sighed.
"Didn't you hear what I said before? We're your mated and deserve respect," he added as if he thought he was being helpful.
Anyone with the least common sense would have backpedaled. So not him then. He chose to double down apparently.
"No, I don't think I do," I said as I just managed to stifle a yawn.
"Yes, you do," he growled.
"Perhaps you should find a different mate then. I can't deal with you right now, this right now," I sighed as I hang up.
I save his number, then blocked it before quickly shutting the device down. I threw my phone on a nearby table, a scowl painted across my face.
"How dare he!" I ran my fingers through my hair before flopping down on my bed. I let out a huff.
Great, now there was no chance of me getting sleep. Not with this on top of everything else. I was so going to let Elisheva free.
I may as well start on my history report, I thought. I made my way towards my computer desk, already planning the outline. Focusing on something normal was what I needed right now. I just needed a few cups of coffee and to take a quick, cold shower to wake up.
I slouched towards the bathroom with a change of clothes in hand.
A/N: Did you know that Leila means dark beauty?
