We were in the living room watching a history documentary while Romulus made some popcorn for us. I still hadn't forgiven him for biting me without my consent, especially in a bathroom.
So much for any romantic ideas about mates.
At least Coinin seemed like he was going to be a great mate. He had been by my side the whole time, fluffing my pillows, bringing me soup and tea while I was healing. Remus was, well, Remus. I didn't get his humor most of the time, although it seemed his brothers did; they would usually smack him right after he opened his mouth.
So although my mates looked exactly the same, the were completely different people. I looked down at my bowl of popcorn with a slight smile, then frowned as I recalled when I first realized just how different they were from one another.
"How am I supposed to tell the three of you apart anyways," I asked as I looked the three of them up and down; physically they were identical.
"You'll be able to tell us apart by our personalities eventually," one of them reassured me.
"It will just be easier to mess with you until you do," another winked. Remus maybe? He was usually the one who said things like that.
My first mate glared at the second. "We could always color coordinate our clothes until you can tell who's who," he added kindly.
"Where's the fun in that," Demanded Remus. I was beginning to understand what Coinin had meant. While they acted the same and often dressed the same their personalities were all different from one another. Somehow it worked however, they tempered each other that way.
Where one was rash, another would be thoughtful. Where one thought he had a great sense of humor, another actually had one. They were all dresses in blue jeans with a red polo shirt and a black leather jacket. That was going to help me a lot.
"Maybe name tags would help," Remus had suggested, finally acting serious. I'd just glared at him.
"Name tags! These are designer," cried one outraged. Romulus? That must be Romulus puffing out his chest. What a diva. At least I was slowly beginning to unravel their different personalities.
I was brought back to earth when the documentary came to an end with some random classical music playing at the end. Oh well, at least it was a recording.
"Did you like it," Coinin asked hopefully.
I didn't want to lie, especially to my one decent mate. "I was daydreaming," I admitted with a blush.
"That's alright, we can always watch it again. I notice you managed to finish your popcorn despite your daydreaming," he teased with a lopsided grin.
I flushed a darker red at that. I hadn't even noticed that I had steadily been munching away at the massive bowl.
He must have seen my look. "I'm glad. You were beginning to look unhealthy with just the tea and soup Leila," he said. I looked up at that, happy that he wasn't making a big deal out of it.
"Coinin," I began. I had suddenly thought of something that they had managed to repeatedly distract me from.
He wrapped his arm around me, then unwrapped it, as if unsure if it was OK with me. It had felt nice, but I didn't want to waste time telling him that and get sidetracked again. His face fell slightly.
"Yes," he said hesitantly.
"When am I going home? I'm completely healed, aren't I?"
His eyes widened at that as he exchanged a nervous look with his brothers.
