Without a thought, I slapped the stranger hard, leaving a bright red imprint of my hand on his left cheek. He let loose a grunt at the impact.
The sound of flesh meeting flesh was like music to my ears. I went to slap him a second time furious that he thought he had the right to kiss me. If I didn't know better I would have thought he was related to Romulus based on his behavior.
He caught my hand before I could make contact. His grip managed to be gentle and firm at the same time. "No," he said gently.
"Who are you," I demanded.
I tried to yank my hand away to no avail. He just tightened his grip each time I attempted to pull back. It wasn't quite painful but it wasn't pleasant either.
"Let me go!" I went to slap him with my other hand which he just grabbed so that it joined its sister in his now painful grip.
His eyes flashed as his nostrils flared. He closed his eyes, he breathed in, then out as I began to struggle. He smelled delicious, similar to my mates. While they smelled of pine trees and fresh rain, he smelled of pine trees and the ocean.
I found myself taking in a slow, deep breath before I had realized what I was doing. Snap out of it I scolded myself. You don't know him and he isn't your mate. Not that you need another one...
"Who are you?"
His back straightened at that, a look of surprise flitting across his face briefly. "I didn't tell you?" I shook my head in response. "I'm Beta Ernouf, your mate."
