Leto and I were at the pack's theater, excited to watch the new movie, "Swimming through Lies," with my uncle's lapdog, Shane. Granted, he was trying to stay out of our way.
The key word here would be trying.
To be fair, he was following my uncle's orders, doing what he was told to do. It didn't look like he was any happier to be here than we were at any rate.
Fine, I'll admit it: I really wasn't happy with how he had been treating me recently.
Before we headed into the movie, we had to get our tickets and decided to grab some snacks while we were getting our tickets at the concession stand.
A girl with poisonous looking green hair that perfectly matched the lime green gum she was chomping on was filing away at her black nails. A boy with dark, shaggy hair that fell into his eyes, half a dozen piercings in his left ear and a silvery-blue streak buried in the left part of his hair was busy texting.
Looking between our two oh-so-attentive options, we decided on the boy who was texting. The three of us headed to the sticky counter, quickly deciding what we wanted to add to our fat storage deposits.
When both cashiers had not realized that they were being paid to work for a few minutes, Shane risked getting a new plague that was likely currently breeding on the counters and firmly rapped his knuckles against it a few times, just missing a questionable spill.
The boy looked up startled, as if he had forgotten where he was.
"Oh, I-I'm sorry guys. How can I help you? I was texting my cousin to see if she was feeling better," he nervously babbled as his face turned an impressive shade of fuchsia. "He has colon cancer. I just didn't want to call in sick and leave Trish on her own; we've been so short staffed as it is..."
"It's alright, life happens," I said with a small smile while Leto and Shane nodded in agreement.
Almost as if he hadn't heard us, he continued on; "Her mom died last week you know," he whispered conspiratorially as the three of us exchanged uncomfortable looks. Her father was supposedly a Fae prince she had a one night stand with, but I've also heard it could have been a Vampire Lord."
"Shut up Brandon," she muttered as she popped her gum.
We glared at the girl defensively before she continued.
Either take care of the customers so I can finish with the headstone or let me. Goddess," she huffed. "You guys good," she added as she tossed her hair which seemed determined to fall into her eyes and stay there.
"Yeah, we're great," Shane said with a wink.
She slowly looked him up and down before scrunching up her nose.
"Ew. No. Just no. Brandon, take care of that. Bye girls," she added as an afterthought as she returned her focus to her phone.
I stared at the girl for a moment.
I think I might be in love.
I turn to Leto to make let her know, only to see Shane's slack-jawed expression.
"Ew," he mouthed.
"Definitely love at first sight here I mumbled," causing Leto to cackle at Shane's expense as she clutched her sides.
"So, what would you guys like," he asked seeming to feel slightly better.
"Oh. Right...that..."
"What would you girls like? your uncle gave me his card."
"It's almost like he doesn't believe I'm fiscally responsible," I pouted.
"Yeah, you can be, you just aren't," Shane muttered petulantly as he eyed an oblivious Trish.
"Do you want to share a large popcorn," Leto asked.
"You know I do. With extra butter? If we're going to splurge, we should splurge. Do you want a large Dr. Pepper with no ice too?"
"Yup, like nobody's business," she grinned cheekily.
Sighing at us as he tried to suppress a smile, he told the boy what we wanted. I could still see Zhongshan's smile; that was a success in my book.
"One large popcorn, extra butter, two medium Dr. Peppers, no ice, two hot dogs, nachos, a box of Now and Laters and two large cherry cokes, no ice."
The poor boy just nodded, wide eyed in awe and I suspect a little fear. I have a theory that Jake has a hollow leg where he stores all of his food. He literally never exercises. Actually, I have a theory that all guys do.
That, or they eat and the food and calories somehow gets transferred to their female loved ones. I call it the circle of fat.
Shane paid for the food as the boy started the drinks, nachos and popcorn, handing us our items before he went and grabbed the candy. We grabbed a couple handfuls of napkins and a few straws before we headed to the theater, juggling our food as we did. We should join Cirque de Soleil if our journey is a successful one after this.
We all decided that we would sit in the middle section, towards the back, but near the aisle. We managed all managed to make it to our seats without any spills, settling into the plush new seats. Goals I'm telling you, goals.
Leto and I settled into one row while Shane sat down two rows behind us as the theater started to fill up. We chatted excitedly non-stop while we waited for the commercials to end, catching up on what had over the week.
I hated how industries had decided that it was a good time to advertise right before movies. They just made me not want to buy their products, even if I did like them. Either I like your product, or I didn't; bad acting is not going to make me want to buy a car.
The theater was soon nearly full except for maybe a half dozen seats, including the one to my right as the lights dimmed. Just as the movie was starting to play, a familiar hulk with a mass of blue-black hair plopped down next to me.
What was he doing here?
A/N: What do you guys think of the newer version so far?
Just so you know, the chapters will be about this length or longer now.
