"Ok baby. Are you sure about this? I mean, you can always take a gap year." My mom said for the one millionth time.Today we were moving all of my things into my new dorm for college. It was a lot of work, but we finally got the last of the boxes and bags out of my mom's car. To be honest, all i really wanted to do in that very moment was curl up on my bed with my teddy bear and my blankie which were packed tightly at the bottom of my suitcase. But i couldn't do that for two reasons. One, my mom didn't know i was a little. And two, i wanted to make sure that my roommate was nice before i gave him anything to tease me about.
It seems the person I'm sharing a dorm with is either, not a freshman, like me, or he had gotten here early to set up his room. I was going to go with the first option though, because his half of the room looked like someone had been living in it for quite a while.
There was a hamper full of clothing, and posters on the walls. There was a large bin of shoes in the corner of the room, leading me to believe that he's a shoe person. Which is cool, because i like shoes too. Although, his collection seemed a lot larger than mine.
"I'm going to be fine mom." I reassured my mom again.
She sighed, with a large heaving of her shoulders. "Ok Teddy. I'm going to miss you." She said, holding her arms out wide, signaling she wanted a hug i easily complied, wrapping her in a tight embrace.
"I'm gonna miss you too" i mumbled into her shirt.
"Make sure you call us, ok? And pick up every time we call. I love you." She said. I could see the tears in her eyes as she backed up towards the door.
I know this was a sad situation, and in all honesty, i had expected myself to cry too. But maybe all the excitement and adrenaline for college life is getting to me, because while i did feel sad, my eyes were dry.
"I will mom. I love you too" i said, giving her a small smile, as she shut the door behind her. I sighed to myself, looking around at the boxes around me. I quickly got to work, hanging up somethings on my wall, making my bed, and putting my clothing in some of the drawers i was provided. There were a couple of other things to do too, but those were small things. I placed my bear on my bed for the finishing touch. I took a step back, looking at the place i would be living for the next few years, at the least.
I think it looked really nice. The fairy lights reminded me of my room at home where i had fairy lights strung all around my room. What really brought be comfort from being away from home though, was my blankie. It was light blue with stars on it. I've had it since i was 5. Its a little worn out, but surprisingly, for its age, I've been able to keep it in pretty good condition.
"Woah man you going into interior design or something? This looks cool." A guys voice said from behind me, shocking me, grabbing my attention. I turned around quickly and was met with a buff looking man. He had sandy blonde hair, that looked really smooth, and he was a lot taller than me. Which isn't that hard, considering my 5'4" frame, but he looked about 5'11".
