Eustace continued scribbling away in his leather-bound diary. Nobody knew what he wrote down since Eustace protected it with his life.
Quite honestly, nobody cared enough to actually ask, however, when anyone came even remotely near his diary, he would get a mad look in his eyes and yell out.
"So far, every person
I've met in this strange
place suffers from the
most florid delusions:
chasing green mists and
looking for lost lords.
I can only assume that this
is the result of poor diet.
Or they're all just barking
mad. Cousin Edmund is
no exception. He spends
every spare second rubbing
that tin sword of his like
it's some magic lantern.
Poor fool clearly needs
a hobby."He slammed his diary shut when he felt a light tap on his shoulders.
"Whatcha writing?" It was Madelyn, who looked at the boy with a small smile.
She didn't know why she even attempted to talk to the boy. He didn't seem to want to speak to her, however, a small part of her felt for him. He barely had anyone to talk to on the entire ship so maybe she could try.
"None of your business. Why don't you go back to following cousin Edmund around?" Her nose scrunched up.
She didn't follow him around. Sure, she spent a lot of her time with but, but that didn't particularly mean she followed him.
The boy looked at her with narrow eyes, just wishing that she would go away.
Madelyn's smile left her face and she rolled her eyes. At least now she could say that she had tried.
"Nice conversation," she said to herself as she turned away from him and walked away.
Her eyes brightened as she saw Edmund across the deck, deeply focused on renewing his sword. She took a few steps in his direction until she heard Eustace's voice in her head again.
"Why don't you go back to following cousin Edmund around?"
She paused in her steps and looked around until she spotted Caspian towards the stern of the ship. She walked towards him. He was looking over a map when she approached him.
"Caspian," she spoke as she scanned over the map that he had in his hand.
He hummed in response as he looked at his cousin. As he looked at her, there was a small nagging voice in the back of her head telling her that Madelyn may never remember. Despite that, he was starting to see that on the inside, the girl was still the same. There wasn't too much that had changed.
"Can I ask you something? You have to promise not to tell anyone though." She looked at him with the most serious eyes she could.
Those exact words brought a smile to his face. In the time she'd spent in Narnia about a year ago, she'd said those exact words to him countless times. When he had asked her, "why would I keep it a secret?" just to mess with her, her eyes widened. She spoke as if he had betrayed her, saying "you have to, you're my brother."
"I won't tell anyone." He looked at her with curiosity.
"Okay. Do you think that I follow Edmund around?" She didn't know why she was putting so much into what Eustace had said, but she couldn't help it.
Caspian cocked an eyebrow in amusement.
"No, you don't follow him around. Why do you ask?" There was a smile on his face.
"No reason. Just a thought." She brushed it off, pouting.
Besides, what did it matter? It was Eustace who'd said it. He always said things like that to people.
Madelyn opened her mouth to speak when the sound of yelling voices and a crash made her turn towards the source. Both her and Caspian looked in the direction.
"Trying to run away? We're on a boat, you know." The voice was Reepicheep's.
"Look, can't we just discuss this?" The second voice came from a disgruntled Eustace.
Reepicheep lunged forward, slicing through Eustace's shirt with a sword. Madelyn watched the scene with raised eyebrows.
"That was for stealing," Madelyn glanced at Caspian who was watching the scene with amusement right next to her.
He lunged again and stabbed an apple out of Eustace's shirt.
"That was for lying," Reepicheep smacked Eustace across the face with the apple at the end of his sword.
"And that was for good measure." He spoke with finality.
In retaliation, Eustace picked up a dagger with shaky hands. Reepicheep let out a hearty laugh, looking at the dagger.
Eustace swung at Reepicheep sloppily and Reepicheep easily jumped out of the way.
"We have ourselves a duel. Catch!" Reepicheep took the Apple off the sword and threw it at Drinian who caught it easily.
Eustace continued swinging at the mouse as quickly as he could while Reep yelled out instructions, trying to mend the boy's technique.
At that point, everyone on the ship had stopped what they were doing to focus on the scene.
Eustace was quickly tiring and getting frustrated. He jabbed his sword harder and faster, trying to get Reepicheep.
Eustace kept going until one of his swings hit Reepicheep, who fell back of the ship.
Madelyn chuckled, realizing what Reepicheep was up to.
Eustace ran forward in a panic to the railing, whipping his head from left to right in search of Reepicheep. Madelyn was surprised. This was the first time he'd shown emotion for someone on the ship.
Reepicheep crept out from behind Eustace, kicking him in the back, knocking him forward.
"And that... is that." Eustace fell, hitting a basket in front of him.
The ship erupted in applause as the basket fell over. Throughout the applause, a scream came from somewhere on the ship.
Madelyn's eyebrows furrowed and she turned to her cousin to see if he had heard it too. He had. Madelyn rushed towards the basket at the same time as Lucy. They both slowly approached it to see a small hand come out from under it.
The owner of the hand crawled out to reveal a little girl that seemed familiar to Madelyn. It was the girl from the island who had lost her mother to the green smoke.
"Look," said Lucy.
"Gael? What are you doing here?" The girl's father came forward with concern.
By then, the ship had fallen silent as they watched. The man walked towards his daughter, embracing her. The girl hid behind her father as Drinian approached.
"Looks like we have an extra crew member." A smile came onto his face as he spoke. Drinian handed Gael the apple in his hand which she took.
Lucy approached the girl.
"Welcome aboard," Lucy said, as Madelyn gave the girl a warm smile.
"Your Majesty," Gael bowed down in respect.
"Call me Lucy. Come on." Lucy led the girl away and Madelyn decided to follow along.
<Thirty-Eight: Preview>
"A spell to make the unseen seen." Lucy read aloud.
AN: Hey guys! I think this chapter's a lot shorter than my usual ones and it wasn't too eventful. It was primarily just the scenes from the movie. Nothing too special, but trust me, exciting things are coming.
