The silence seemed to fall away like a heavy curtain on the stage of a play, replaced with screams coming not just from the Telmarines, but also the Narnians charging towards the castle. Madelyn watched as they come closer and knew that their little break was over.

At that moment, it was clear. The battle had begun. Madelyn could hear soldiers approaching her with battle cries. She knew this night would go a lot more different than she had initially thought it would.

Madelyn had thought about this one moment a lot. She always wondered how she would feel and what she would do. She thought that considering she hadn't even gotten remotely close to touching a sword before, she would panic. You see the thing is, you can never really know how you will react to something until it's happening. Now she knew, she was wrong. There was not a hint of panic in her. Instead, excitement and adrenaline was pumping through her veins with all the blood. She knew there would be bloodshed on both sides and that she could ultimately lose her own life, but somehow, the excitement got the best of her. So far, her entire life had been awfully boring and this was the first time she'd been part of something bigger than herself. For a split second, Madelyn considered if it was crazy to feel like that, but decided not to dwell on it as the terrible sounds of the battle pulled her back into reality.

Behind her, she heard the thumps of heavy footsteps getting closer and closer to her by the second. The girl shared one last look with Edmund, nodding confidently before turning to fight the soldiers charging towards her. She gripped her sword tighter and charged at the soldiers. Madelyn raised her sword high, bringing it down at the first soldier. She thanked the lords Edmund had insisted she practice fighting multiple people. He'd made her duel Peter, Trumpkin, as well as himself at the same time to get her used to having more than one opponent. He'd told her that when she fought in a battle, she most likely would have more than one opponent and boy was he right.

Three guards were surrounding her at the moment. She was swiftly moving between them, making sure not to take her eyes of any of them even for a second. It was as if her body was on autopilot when she fought. All three of them loomed over her, most probably weighing at least a hundred pounds more than she did. Sure, it could be a disadvantage for her, but she'd been trained well by Edmund and one of the things he'd taught her was how to use her small frame as an advantage.

Swordfights were interesting things. In a way, they were like a ballet. You had to be swift and move as smoothly as a knife through butter. She realized this the first time she watched Edmund fight someone. Now, using a sword was one of her favorite things to do. In the little time she'd been there, she practiced so much that the hilt of the sword in her hand felt like second nature. When she used a sword, everything else left her mind and she felt free.

The Just King ran through a door, putting his flashlight through the handle to hold it closed. He glanced down over the balcony. There was one person he was mainly looking for, that one person wasn't there. Madelyn wasn't in the middle of the main battle which meant she was still somewhere in the castle. Edmund felt panic rise in his chest as he wondered where Madelyn could be. The last time he'd seen her, she was just above him looking through the window. After that, they'd gotten separated. He cursed at himself for not staying by her side, but he knew she would be okay. If there was a girl who could handle herself, it was Madelyn. A man grunted behind the door, banging on it as Edmund turned to face it, standing right at the edge of the balcony.

Madelyn was running through the castle after fighting off many different soldiers. She'd gotten through the soldiers somehow fairing quite well compared to the soldiers she fought. Luckily, it seemed as if the coast was clear so that she could reach the main ground where the army was. It seemed as if most of the guards and soldiers were on the main ground, leaving the inner twists and turns of the castle rather empty. In her mind, it was a little stupid of them to leave the place with all the women and children empty. Although Madelyn would never even think of trying to attack women and children with no defense, she easily could've if she wanted to.
