(Y/N) POV

My alarm goes off as it wakes me up. I was startled at first as I scramble to turn it off

"Wow," I mutter. I actually slept well

It felt strange waking up without remembering a nightmare. The same images of death that plagued my sleep for so many years had vanished.

"I feel...refreshed," I talk to myself as I stand up and get clothes on.

I could smell bacon coming from the kitchen. Smells good

The police had me fill out a report for his arrest. I also learned the name of the man who pushed my wife...it was Oliver.

I have to head down to a police station later today for personal reasons

"Smells good," I say as I enter the kitchen

"It's almost done," Caroline says as I nod

"Cool," I mutter quietly as I pull out my phone and start reading the news

I see her walk over and slide a plate in front of me

"Breakfast is ready," she says smiling as she sits down with her own plate in front of her

"Where's Nancy?" I ask

"Still sleeping," She responds as I nod

"So are you heading down to the station?" She asks as I nod

"Yea, I will be heading to the cities police station, while I'm out, I'll also drop by our own and see how your court date is coming along," I say as she nods and becomes silent.

I finish my food and thank her for the meal

"You know?. I almost forgot about what happened," she says as I'm about to leave the kitchen.

"It has been a while," I say as she nods

"I'd never expected myself to have forgotten though," she adds

"Yea, our minds do weird things to protect us," I say as she agrees

I head to my room and I prepare to leave the house.

I swung by Nancy's room and sure enough, she is passed out cold. It warms my heart a bit to see her snuggled up with the teddy I got her for Christmas.

"I'm off now," I announce to Caroline

"Drive safe," she says as I nod and leave.

I start my car and head to the cities police station

"(Y/N) is it?" An officer asks as I nod

"Right this way," she says as I follow her to the back

They lead me to a cell where Oliver was being held

"You two can chat now," she says as she leaves

"So you're the guy?" The Oliver asks

"Yea," I say as I try to control myself. Even after my resolve yesterday, I still feel the need to kill this man

"So.....did she really die?" He asks as my eyes widen

"Of course she did," I say as I feel dizzy. I take a seat as he puts his head in his hands

"God damn it...I really hope she survived...I'm sorry," he says as I just stare at him with a blank look on my face.

"I was in a rush...my wife was in the hospital giving birth to my boy. I wasn't thinking straight," he says as I fight back tears

"It wasn't just my wife you killed," I say as he looks up

"You also killed my child," I finish as he looks shocked. He tears up as he thinks of what to say

"I don't know how to respond to that...I can't imagine the pain I caused you...I couldn't even picture a world without my wife and my boy," he says

"Well, I can," I mutter as he looks guilty

"I'm sorry," was all he said before the officer came back in to retrieve me

"Times up," she says as I leave.

"So, what's gonna happen to him?" I ask as she shrugs

"The case has been closed for years. And upon looking at the new evidence, this is likely to be a simple accident that ended in the loss of life," she says as I only nod

"Ok," was the last word I said before I left that station

Accident...I guess it was... an accident that ended her life...and threw mine into thousands of pieces

I head over to my towns police station and I headed to the Chiefs office

"(Y/N) good to see you," he says as I nod

"So, I heard they caught him," he says softly

"Yea. I found him at a mall," I say as the chief laughs

"Your joking right?" He asks as his answer is written on my face

"Oh," he finishes as I nod

"So? Did you do it?" He asks

"I was close...I had my finger on the trigger," I say as he nods

"You sounded pretty convinced that you were gonna kill him," the chief says

"Yeah, I know," I say as he drops the subject

"So you in here for Caroline correct?" He asks as I nod

"The court date has been moved up to an actual date now," he says as I nod encouraging him to go on

"January 27th," he says

"That's only a few weeks away," I say as he agrees

"Yea," he mutters as he looks at me

"So, how's her behaviour?" He asks

"Normal...I mean I'd never guess that she accidentally killed someone with self-defence," say as he writes down something,

"ok, since she has no money to hire one. We have provided a lawyer and they should be there tomorrow to discuss the case," he tells me

"Ok, I'll tell her now," I say as I leave

"Stay safe man," he says as I nod

"Cya," I say as I hop into my car and head home
