(Y\N) POV
The chief looks at the girl
"She's the daughter, I don't think we should separate them," I say as the police chief looks at me
"Put her in the cell and leave the girl with me," he says as he crouches down to Nancy level
"Come to me, I'll give you some cookies," He says as Nancy hides behind my leg
The chief looks at me
"Can she just walk down with me, I'll return after I've placed her in a cell," I say
"Be snappy," the chef says
"Will do," I mutter
I walk to the back room and open one of our two cells, Caroline walks in as I undo her cuffs
"I'll try to get Nancy in there with you, but as I said before, if I can't, I'll make sure she is in good hands," I say
"Ok," Caroline says as she slouches down
"Be good ok Nancy," Caroline says with tears in her eyes as I slip into my pocket and start the voice recorder again
"Mommy, I want to stay with you," Nancy says as she starts to tear up as all
"Nancy, you need to listen to (Y/N) ok? He is a good guy and will help you," Caroline says
"But mommy," Nancy protests
"Listen to him until mommy can take care of you again," Caroline says as Nancy hugs my leg
"Ok," Nancy says as Caroline backs away from the front of the cell to the bench against the back
I walk to the chief's office
"She's in the cell," I mutter as I sit down
"Ok, so what's the deal?" The chief asks
"I'm thinking it was self-defence," I say as Nancy sits in the seat beside me
"Self-defence?" He asks as I take out my voice recorder and play the questioning period I had with her
The chief sits back in his chair after it finishes
"Say, if that is true. How do we prove it," the chef asks
"Could always ask the girl, and the man's co-workers and such," I say referring to Nancy
"I mean, I guess we could," He says looking at her
"What happened when your daddy was killed?" The chief asks. Nancy starts fidgeting with her fingers
"You can tell us, you did nothing wrong," I say
"Well, dad got really mad, and attacked momma, I was so scared I screamed. After that, he looked at me and starting hurting me badly. But momma stopped him and then hugged me," She explains. The same story from two different people, that's a good sign
"Thank you," the chef says
"So tomorrow, I'm going to have you do some work revealing more of the story," the chief asks
"But you should go home and rest," he continues
"What about the girl?" I ask
"do You think she could sleep with her mom?" I ask already kinda knowing the answer.
The chief laughs a bit and says, "If that happened I'd be fired, the girl seems attached to you. So if you don't mind, she can stay at your place, you certainly have enough space,"
"I guess I could," I say a little disappointed that the original plan didn't work
"Cya (Y/N), have a good sleep," the chief says as we walkout
"Let's go see mum," I say to Nancy as I walk back to the cell
I walked in and Caroline was rubbing her arms, where the bruises must hurt
"Hey," I say as she notices us
"So?" She asks
"I convinced the chief that you self defended yourself, but it's far fetched for Nancy to stay with you in the cell," I say
"Oh, ok. What's gonna happen to her?" She asks concerned
"She'll be sleeping at my house until you can get out," I say as she looks a little nervous
"I'm not gonna hurt her, I promise she'll be fine," I say as that does little to assure her
"Mommy, I like this guy," Nancy says as Caroline looks more restful
"has she eaten dinner yet?" I ask quickly
"She had a few bites before he went berserk," Caroline says
"Ok," I say
"Goodbye mommy," Nancy says
"Be a good girl," Caroline says as we leave
I walk to my car with Nancy holding my hand. I load her in the front passenger seat and I hopped in and drove to my house
It takes 10 minutes to get to my house from the station
We arrive and my house is decent in size. Four bedrooms, two bathrooms. A decently sized kitchen and dining room. And a smaller living room. It's a nice house
I get out of the car and let Nancy out. I walk to the front door and unlock it, then I enter
The air is a little dusty. I'm not home very often...it brings back bad memories.
I turn on the lights and take off my shoes
"Wow, it's big," Nancy says in wonder. Compared to her apartment, this place is huge
"I'll show you your room," I say as I led her to the spare guest room. I open the door and clouds of dust come out. This room doesn't get opened....ever
I cough a bit and mutter, "I need to do some dusting,"
Nancy giggles a bit and looks in the room
"Is this bed really mine?" She asks looking at the bed in the middle of the room. The room was empty. It had a bed, a nightstand, and a wardrobe
"Yea, the bed is all yours for the night," I say
"Wow, I get to sleep on a bed, and not the ground," She says excitedly. The quality of life with her father must have been terrible
"I'll make some dinner," I say as I leave her excitement alone
I walk through the halls and I passed all of the rooms, one of the rooms I passed, was filled with baby stuff
