(Y/N) POV

I held him at gunpoint. I've never pulled my gun on anyone before.

When I saw him, my body reacted on its own.

Soon, screams erupted in the mall as the man looked around for the cause. His eyes meet mine.

I felt the urge to pull the trigger. But as I placed my finger over the trigger to fire. He moved.

He covered a small child, not much older than Nancy.

And it clicked. This man has a family now.

I think of how I felt when Nat died. They would feel the same right?

Even though my mind told me no, my body moved on its own.

I followed the man as he covered the child. And my finger was tightening to fire the weapon.

I felt a tuck on my shirt. Nancy had a hold on my shirt.

Her eyes looked confused as another second wave of doubt came over me.

My heart was torn in so many places

On one side, the overwhelming need to kill this man who took everything away from me

And the other, this little girl.

If I shot and killed this man, I'd likely never see her again. Furthermore, I'd also make their lives even worse.

I looked back at the man to see his eyes closed as he held his son.

I can't do this. My heart aches as I lower my gun.

As things stand, I just pulled a gun on a man for no reason.

I keep hold of my gun as I walk to the man

"Sir, you're under arrest," I mutter as he opens his eyes and looks at me confused

"For what?" He asks

"For manslaughter," I mumble under my breath

"I'm the police," I say as I grab my badge and call 911.

The police showed up and detained him

"Honey, what's going?" His wife asks him as he gets hauled away.

"I don't know, take care of Louis, I'll be back," he says softly.

Just by looking at him, I could tell he was a different man from before.

The same person, but he changed. I remember his voice being a lot rougher...yet again I only heard him speak a little.

My head starts hurting as they all leave

"You scared me a little," Caroline says behind me

"I'm sorry," I mutter

"I thought you were going to do it," she says

"I was," I answer as she looks confused

"My wife. She was pushed into road traffic. She died on the spot. And the man that pushed her. Was him," I say slowly as Caroline's eyes widen

"I'm sorry," she says as I feel someone wrap around my waist

"It's alright (Y/N)," Nancy says hugging me. I felt tears come to my eyes.

This coulda been my child doing this. My wife could be standing next to me.

But they aren't.

I kneel to Nancy's level and hug her back

"Thank you," I whisper into her ear

"For what?" She asks with a cute and confused look on her face

"You wouldn't understand, but thank you," I say as I engulf her in another hug.

I was stuck in the past. I was looking backwards while time was moving forward

I need to look forward, these two have been here. But I was too caught up looking at the past that I couldn't see them.

"Let's go home," I say as I stand up. Caroline looks at me with a smile.

I didn't notice.

But I'm smiling

Sorry for the short chapter. But on another note. How do you feel about Caroline being the love interest? I mean, if I'm being honest, it kinda doesn't feel right. So comment as to what you think. Should I introduce another character or should we advance with Caroline?
