" You've disobeyed for the second time," The principal said.
The school's police officers were in the room, drawing more attention than necessary from students who passed by.
" Gosh, you'd think we'd have cocaine with us," I said, rolling my eyes.
" Do you?" One of the officers asked. I swear, his hand twitched towards his gun.
I laughed.
" No," Carter laughed. " I don't see why you're so mad about this. We could be out there doing marijuana or weed right now."
" Marijuana and weed are the same thing," I coughed.
" Oh. I don't even know the difference. Good thing I'm in a band instead of doing drugs," He said.
" Mr. Lloyd, this is no laughing matter," Our beloved and wise principal said.
" Sir, I just don't see the deal," Carter said.
" It's a side project, a distraction from your classes-"
" So are sports!" Phillip yelled, as if solving a frustrating puzzle. " You see all these kids going home at 10 o'clock every night, not getting enough sleep or time to do homework and that's perfectly fine but when-"
" Do not try and use that logic with me, Mr. Jones," The principal said, rubbing his temples.
" Why not? Because it's the truth?" Carter asked.
" Where is Aidan O'dell? Should I call him up here?"
" Aidan's out of the band," I said, hoping it'd keep him out of trouble. " He quit after the first time you told us to. Apparently Aidan doesn't believe in freedom either," I said.
Carter snorted. " You guys do realize that forcing us out of the band isn't very liberty and pursuit of happiness, right?" He asked.
" Mr. Lloyd, that made no sense," The principal said. " I'm not here to negotiate. This is your second warning. If another song is uploaded to your YouTube-"
" You subscribed?" I asked.
" Yes. We have to make sure you-"
" Which cover's your favorite?" Josh asked.
" Enough! On the third warning you will all be expelled!" The principal yelled. " Now go back to class!" He said.
" You'll be hearing from my lawyer," I said as we were escorted out of the office.
" We have to contact Obama," I told the guys before we parted ways.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
" What do you mean the principal is making you quit?!" My dad yelled.
" Yeah. It's our second warning," I huffed.
" He can't make you do that!" He yelled, scaring the cats out of the room.
Carter stifled a laugh beside me.
" I know," I said.
I couldn't get ahold of Obama but my parents were the next best thing.
" I'm going to call the school right now. You kids keep doing what you do. Don't let the school stop you if you love the band," He said before turning the TV off and grabbing his phone.
I exchanged glances with Carter. We were both pretty thankful for my dad. My mom on the other hand looked a little unsure about contacting the school.
" Maybe we should go in person," She said.
" Probably a better idea," My dad said, hanging up after the third ring. " Tomorrow."
" Yep. Go to bed, kids," My mom said, leaning into my dad's shoulder.
" Night mom," I said before dashing upstairs.
" Night," Carter said before following me.
We met in his room, with the cats in our lap.
" What do you think is going to happen now?" He asked, petting Hayley while I pet Gerard.
I shrugged. " Don't know. But maybe we should tell the rest of the squad that my lawyers are getting involved," I said.
" Good idea."
He pulled his phone out and sent a message to our group chat.
You're still doing the band? - Aidan replied a few minutes later.
Why wouldn't we? Some of us were really committed to it :/ -Carter.
The conversation stopped after that.
