Josh's POV
My headache was growing as we started eating, and it wasn't because of the cold. I was on edge, something felt wrong and I knew there was some sort of danger nearby. One look at the others and I felt like they'd keep me safe. I just needed some Advil.
I asked if someone would go to the pharmacy across the street with me. They reminded me of the rules, and then Aidan got up and we left.
While we crossed the icy road, pushing each other and trying to stay on both feet, my headache got worse. We walked inside Walgreens, both of us shivering from the cold.
As I grabbed my pills and we stood in the very back of the line, two men came up to us and one tapped on my shoulder. They were taller and older than us, and I felt intimidated.
" Aren't you Josh Cartel?" One of them asked.
" No," Aidan said immediately.
They ignored him. " Does your sister go by the name of Drea?"
" Who?" I asked, feeling my face burn.
" Drea Cartel, don't play stupid with me," The tallest said, lowering his voice.
Aidan cleared his throat. " Who are you?" He asked in a defiant tone.
" That's none of your business. Where's your sister?" The man asked me. The other reached into his pocket.
I dropped my pills, headache forgotten, and pulled Aidan out of the store, this time ignoring the ice on the road as we ran back to Gavin.
" Gavin! Gavin! Wake up!" We both panicked as he woke up.
" We have to go, now! There's two men at the pharmacy who're looking for my sister-"
" You went to the pharmacy?" He asked, annoyed that we defied him.
Alexia, Phillip, and Carter walked out of Golden Corral.
" We have to go," Aidan said, getting into the van with everyone else. Gavin sat up and moved to the driver's seat as I took the passenger seat and we pulled out of the parking lot.
Everyone was silent, so silent that I wondered if they could hear my heartbeat speeding up, threatening to explode. I looked outside the window and saw the two men pointing at us.
" Can we go any faster?" Aidan asked.
" What did you two do?" Alexia hissed.
" Nothing!?" Aidan yelled, mostly out of fear.
She sank into her blanket.
Everyone was silent the rest of the way, all of us glancing out the window, looking for a car tailing behind us, and anything else that seemed out of place. But nothing was different. And perhaps Aidan and I had overreacted.
But that didn't stop the migraine in my head, and I was still scared.
