Let's get straight off the bat.
I live with my mom and brother.
My parents are divorced, and I'm cool with that. A lot of people's parents are divorced.
But you know what's a tad bit cheesy?
Writing books about a parent dramatically dying in like an alien invasion or a zombie apocalypse...
Jk.
I just think the usual, "I'm a rich kid and my parents are always away on business.", is corny.
Or," I'm an orphan, my parents died in some freak accident, and I now reside with my grandmother who loves to bake me cookies."
It's so corny.
Now don't get me wrong, I've read several books with these story lines, AND I LOVE THEM.
But come on people, be more realistic. You don't have to be rich to be a misunderstood bad boy.
You also don't have to be an orphan to be a nerdy-never kissed, good girl.
What about a single-dad raising some kids? I never read a story like that. I'm sure they're out there. But I'm sure you don't see them that often.
Or a distant cousin raising some rebel kids? That must be rare as hell.
Come on, people! Be ORIGINAL.
You ever noticed the more unique something is, the more noticed it is?
Well yeah. That happens.
But honestly, the parents or guardians really shape the story a lot. In the best books they do anyway.
So, as long as you can make your story awesome, do you boo.
Have the main character be raised by robots if it tickles your fancy.
HAHAH THAT SOUNDS FUNNY.
Anyway, don't take this the wrong way. Just expressing my opinion here. Maybe you agree with me, maybe you don't. That's okay. I'm always open to other perspectives. Oh my God I sound like Atticus.

Do guys know who Atticus is? If you do, you were probably forced to know who he is in school.
But it's a good book when you actually read it.
If you don't know what the hell I'm talking about, Google To Kill a Mockingbird. Pretty good....
