I'll start with this. This does not apply to everyone.
It's totally fine if you're proud of your work, as you should be, but as usual, there's a limit to the slack I cut.
There's a difference between confidence and cockiness.
Confidence, you're proud of what've you accomplished, because you know how much effort you put into it.
Cockiness, going so far, and being so vain, that you sound like you've got a superiority-complex the size of the moon.
If you sound like this,
"Oh God, I'm really proud of this chapter. I put so much time and effort into it, and I think it came out really well! I hope you guys enjoyed it as much as I did!", that's one thing.
But if you sound like a total ass,
"Sooo. I know what you're already thinking. This is the greatest thing you've ever read. I know. It's so much better than the rest of the shitty work on here", just know, you sound stupid.
Everyone has their own interpretations between, "bad" and "good" work. Don't go criticizing the work of others.
And please don't go hurting feelings. People put their all into what they publish, and it's not cool to go undermining their ability.
Last time I checked, if your book is the gift from the damn heavens like you claim it be, you should be expecting a publishing deal soon, aye? Mhm. Thought so.
And for that matter, the people who get the book deals, are more often than not, the underconfident ones.
They're the most modest, down-to-earth people you can imagine.
So please, you're not going to be one of the next J.K. Rowling's, James Patterson's, or Stephen King's with that shitty attitude.
Just saying though, just saying though.
