Chapter 33: Finals II

"Kung alam ko lang na magkaka away silang mag kaibigan ng dahil sa akin edi sana hindi ko nalang inamin kay Mark ang nararamdaman ko." I said to Kelly.

"Shush. If you do that, ikaw naman ang masasaktan." She said and then carressed my back.

"Kahit na. If I did that, magkaibigan pa rin sila hanggang ngayon."

"And do you think he will stop without getting your heart? He will always bother you if you do that."

"Pero friendship naman nila ang malapit ng mawala."

"Hey, trust them. They been together for so many years, they know each other very well. I know that they will get along."

"I don't know. I just hope they will." I said and then bumangon.

"Players the game will now begin. There will be two winners, one girl and one boy. Good luck."

I sighed. "I will surrender."

"What?!"

"Sasabihin ko na ayoko na. I will let you win."

"Are you crazy?! Hey, where are you going?"

"Pa kay dean." Sabi ko at tumakbo paalis.

Tumakbo ako papunta sa office nya at kumatok.

"Come in."

"Magandang hapon po Dean."

"What brings you here Sapphire?"

"Dean, let Kelly win."

"Are you saying that you are surrendering?"

"Yes Dean."

"Why? Tell me why."

"Personal issues Dean--"

"Is it because of my son and Felip? Because of what happened earlier?"

"Dean.."

"You're emotionally in pain Sapphire Cruz, I know."

I sighed heavily.

"Don't regret something that you've already done. No regrets Sapphire Cruz. That is what I'm always telling to the both of them." He said and then smiled . "Because if you mourn on your defeat or regrets for too long, you will be drowned by it. You will be drowned of your thoughts. Move forward Sapphire. They will get along, I know my son and Felip well. Hindi magtatagal ang galit nila sa isa't isa."

"If you're tired, rest, I will let you surrender. But think about this, do your heart really wanted you to surrender? Gusto ba talaga ng puso mo na hindi na ito ituloy? Ulit ulitin mo ang bagay na yun sa isip mo at kapag nakuha mo na ang sagot, saka ko itutuloy ang Finals. Think about it Sapphire." He said and then smiled again to me.

"I will tell you a story. It may help you to clear your thoughts."

"Mark, he spend his whole life inside this university. He never got a chance to get out here. Sometimes, he sneak out but because I'm too protective to him, he never got a chance to be out. You know what? One day a business man came here. He said that he wanted to enroll his son to this not so prestigous university in exchange for money."

"But my son saw him, Felip. He seems so happy na may mag eenroll ulit dito at ka- edad nya pa. So I said na sige he's enrolled here but I wont accept his money. Which he said yes, but he also said that he will support his son's needs, kahit daw hindi ko na tanggapin yung pera basta hayaan ko na lang daw sya na supportahan ang anak nya. So sinabi ko sige kung saan masaya ang anak ko yun ang ibibigay ko sa kanya."

"Taon ang lumipas at naging masaya muli ang anak ko, iba sa saya na naibibigay ko sa kanya. Kita ko na kumikinang ang mata nya sa tuwing nakikuta nya si Felip. Isang beses nga tinanong ko sya kung may gusto ba sya kay Felip. Pero tinawanan nya ako at sinabing, he's only ny friend dad, He's my best friend. Sabi nya." And then he laugh.

"Years and years and years have passed at mas lalo pang lumalim ang pagkakaibigan nila. At ang matindi, hindi alam ng buong university na mag kaibigan sila dahil sa top 1 si Mark at top 2 si Felip, kaya ang akala nila ay magka kompitensya sila."

"But then one day, you walk in. Noong araw na inutusan ko sya na dalhin ka sa dorm mo, alam ko na husto ka na nya. Kita ko ulit yung kinang sa mata nya eh. Iba ang kinang na yun. At alam ko na baka ikaw ang mag pahulo sa dalawang yun."

"Noong panahon din na nakita ko na halos bugbugin ka na ni Felip. Alam kong nagustuhan ka na nya din nung oras na ipagtangol ka ng anak ko. Nanghihinayang sya, sana ay sya nalang yun yan ang tingin ko."

"Mahal na mahal ka nila Sapphire." Sabi nya at tumingin sa akin. "Lalo na ang anak ko. Kita ko na masaya sya tuwing kasama ka, yung pakikiusap nya sa akin kung pwede daw ba na magkaroon ng
Tatlong araw na bakasyon bago kayo mag test. Alam ko na may balak sya nun." He said and then chuckled.

"Sapphire, please understand my son, he's only just doing what he think is right. He grew up, being secured and now he wanted to secure what's his." He sighed.

"Gave my son another chance Sapphire. Understand him, please make my son happy like you always do."

I looked to him and then held his hands. "I will Dean, I'll do everything I can." I smiled.

"Think about what you've said to me earlier." He said and then smiled.

"Yes Dean." I said and then get out of the room.

Pagkasara ng pinto huminga ako ng malalim.

Surrendering without even trying to fight is like you admit that you're weak, and I'm not that.

Letting my emotions take control of me, isn't the usual me. I was always strong, persisted and brave woman. I never back down.

I ususally don't give up eh. Tapos ngayon susuko ako? No, I wont.

Nagulat nalang ako ng may biglang dumaan sa harap ko.

"Felip.." I uttered.

"Hi.." he said and then gave me his usual smile before he enter the Dean's office.

Papasok din sana ako para sabihin ang sagot ko pero na unahan ako. Okay lang naman.

Paglabas nya tumigil sya sa harap ko.

"I'm sorry.. I shouldn't.... kissed you earlier. So stupid of me." He said and then chuckled.

I also chuckled because of that. "Its fine. I... understand.." I said.

"Still sorry.. forget what I've said earlier Sapphire, wala lang yun, its only just...... a dare." He said while looking the other way.

Napatingin ako sa kanya. What? D-dare? I'm not convinced.

"Oh.."

"Yeah. So... can we stay as friends? Maybe?" He asked offering his hand.

I accept it. "Best friends. Say it that way." I smiled.

"Ah, I'll leave. By the way.. thank you for the another chance."

I smiled and then nodded.

Pagkaalis nya naman ay pumasok ako sa Dean's office.

"Yes?" Dean asked while smiling.

"Dean.."

He looked at me waiting for my answer.

"I won't surrender."
