3rd person pov:

The group of four had led the titans away successfully and returned to their horses. A few titans were spotted, causing signals to fire into the air. They were killed and the group advanced.

For a while the operation was moving smoothly. Some titans were seen but were easily avoided. That is until a large group started hurling towards the front right flank. These titans had whipped out many of the members, creating a gap in the formation. On this right flank was your team.

"Reiner? Reiner?" You shouted, your head on a swivel. He was gone, no where to be seen. You bit your lip as you continued to ride forward, holding back the tears. Fortunately, Bertolt was still around and was racing behind you.

You looked up to see a signal fired in the air from a further distance away. It was towards the right where the outer flank would have drifted off to if they had escaped. You shot one in the air shortly after. This had given you some hope that he was possibly still alive.

The right side flank had passed on the intel all the way up to Commander Erwin. This caused him to change the formation as you entered the forest. No one had responded to this change though, causing further problems.

Horror filled your eyes as you saw a small group attacking the Female Titan. They were easily swept away and kicked by her, killing them in an instant. Your heart began to pound as you saw more and more comrades die.

I know Erwin said that some of us will die, but I didn't think this many. You thought, continuing to ride forward at high speeds.

Everyone except Levi's squad had been told to stay put on the outskirts of the forest. They were informed to kill titans that came near and to hold their ground. With this stoppage you started to look around. You felt a strong nag on your hood as you turned to see the Commander.

"Hey, where do you think you're going young cadet." He growled, pulling you nearly off your horse.

"Captain, you mean." You said, revealing your face.

"Oh, I'm sorry about that. But still, please stay on your flank." He demanded, letting go of your hood.

"As if there is anyone left to protect." You scoffed, crossing your arms and raising your chin. When those words came out of your mouth, it made you realize Reiner was still missing.

"Where is he? Have you seen him? Where is Reiner?" You asked frantically.

"I haven't seen him. You should know where the people on your flank are." He replied.

"Sir, half of my flank has rather been killed or driven away by titans. I haven't seen Jean Kirsten, Armin Arlert, or my Reiner Braun. Those are three of the best cadets we have recruited."

"We have no time to look for them right now. We must protect Levi's squad and Eren." Erwin said, not looking at you.

"Of course." You scoffed, heading back towards your position.

Time went by and you had entered the forest. They had caught the female titan and started to swipe for her nape to reveal the human who was inside. This was than postponed when she let out a screech, attracting other titans. The vicious titans started to attack the female titan, eating away at her decaying body. Erwin had demanded everyone to protect her, but it had failed. The commander than ordered everyone to retreat, leaving Levi to be on watch for the reappearance of the Female Titan.

These moments only later led up the brutal murders of Levi's squad, and the return of the Survey Corps to the Karanes District. Loads of families were looking for their children, sobbing as many had died. Erwin had to deal with Petra's father, and the nasty remarks from the citizens. He ignored them all and headed back for the survey corps' building.

"Reiner!" You cried out, reaching for the tall man. You pulled him into a hug and collapsed in his arms, crying. "I was so worried."

"Captain, I don't know if I've ever seen you cry before." He chuckled, holding you close to him.

You backed up and punched him in the shoulder. "Can I be happy for once?" You joked. The two of you shared a laugh before hugging again. Relief swept through your body as Reiner was now safe and out of harms way.

"Captain Y/n, my office please." Erwin called out, looking emotionlessly at the two of you.

You nodded and waved Reiner goodbye before entering the office. "Yes, sir?"

"I need to talk to you about something. I am not sure you are going to believe me or like it, but I am not the only one who thinks this." He gestured towards three other people: Armin, Eren and Mikasa. You sat down across from them, waiting to hear what they had to say.

"I have come to the conclusion that the Female Titan is Annie Leonhart. The reasoning behind this is that she stopped to not kill me twice. She also was on the hunt for Eren, which no normal titan would know that he is one also. Jean had mention the nickname of Erens, suicidal maniac, and the titan froze up. This is yet another reason I have this opinion. I also would like to say, the two have a very clear resemblance in appearance. Lastly, she had presented Marco's gear when we did a check, swapping it out with her own that she used to kill Hange's test subjects with." Armin said to you, playing with his thumbs.

Shock with a hint of sadness flew over your body. Annie was always quiet and simplistic, but kind when you would ask her for things, even though she looked impolite. Bertolt and Reiner also seemed to have some sort of tie to her, which only caused you to worry.

"Thank you for the explanation, you three are free to go." Commander Erwin said, nodding at them as they left.

"I have something else I want to talk about with you Y/n." He said, sitting on the couch beside you.

"What now? Are you going to tell me more of my friends are titans!" You shouted, squeezing your fists tightly.

"Yes, yes I am." He replied.
