"I still remember the look on your face
Lit through the darkness at 1:58"
"Jack stop! Put me down!" Evelyn shouted at her boyfriend, "Jack!" She was laughing, as he carried her over his shoulder up the stairs.
"Hold on Ev! We're almost there!" Jack's hands rested on the back of her thighs as he hopped up the stairs towards his room.
The pair had been at a club with their friends, celebrating the release of Why Don't We's newest single. There were dancing, drinking, and games. They were happy.
Jack put his girlfriend down on the bed, climbing over her to press a light kiss on her cheek. Evelyn felt her cheeks grow warm. Jack rested on his elbow beside her, taking in the curve of her cheekbones, how her long eyelashes framed her soft brown eyes. He pushed some stray hairs out of her face and met her eyes.
Evelyn rolled on top of Jack, her legs situated on either side of his torso. Jack raised his eyebrows, letting his hands fall to the top of her thighs. There was just enough light coming into the room that Evelyn could see the features of his face. She saw the slope of his nose, the shine of his nose ring, and his perfectly kissable lips. She reached down and pressed her lips to his, "what was that for?" Jack asked when she pulled away, shock evident on his face,
"Oh, I don't know," she started, "I just thought you might like it." she saw him smile,
"I didn't say to stop babygirl" his voice dropped, and she giggled. His hands reached for her face and kissed her once again. Their lips moved together harmoniously, neither one saying anything. Jack pulled away first. He peppered the rest of her face with light kisses, "come on babe, let's go to bed."
"you know Jack, the night is still young." She laughed, pulling her body off of his,
"It's like two in the morning!" Jack smiled back, pulling off his t-shirt
Evelyn looked over at the clock on Jack's nightstand, "Actually, It's only 1:58." Jack rolled his eyes and threw his shirt at his girlfriend,
"Okay smart ass."
Evelyn laughed and discarded her clothes on Jack's floor. She pulled the loose t-shirt over her body and tucked herself in beside him. Evelyn heard Jack hum and felt her eyes growing tired, she let her eyes fall shut and sleep consume her.

Evelyn woke up alone, in her small apartment in LA. The memory of Jack clung to her like a wet T-shirt. She found herself going through the motions of life. She did her tasks, she washed the dishes, made her bed, did the laundry. But, even a year later it wasn't the same. Sure, her career took off, as did Jack's, nothing was really the same though. The hurt she felt got less and less, but, she still wasn't herself.
On the warm August day, Evelyn found herself humming a melody, this wasn't unusual for her, she hummed new melody's all the time. This one felt different. With the melody fresh in her mind, she sat down at the piano, song-book in tow and hummed the melody into her phone. She picked through some chords until she found a couple that fit behind the sound she had stuck in her head.
I still remember, the look on your face
Evelyn smiled, knowing that felt right
Alive in your darkroom, back at your place
She scrunched eyebrows and scratched off the words she had written. She had written down six different phrases, each one feeling worse than the last. This was probably going to be a dead melody. Something that was good, but nothing would come of it. She tried out the last one,
I still remember, the look on your face
Lit through the darkness, at 1:58
Evelyn smiled, there it was.
