A week later I step through the door on a Friday night to see my mom already home.
"You're home early tonight." I said to my mother.
"And you're home late!" She said angrily.
"I told you I would hang out with some friends tonight," I paused. "Didn't I?"
She sighed, "Yes but not home at 10!"
"Why do you have such a problem with my friends? Maybe they were a little late, so?"
"Your friends are just like you, sad and emotional. They get angry and when they hit you, don't come crying to me..."
"That was unexpected..." I whispered to myself.
I threw my stuff in my room and changed into workout clothes. I went into the basement and jumped on the treadmill. I'll just run until I'm numb. Before I started my phone rang.
"Hello?"
"Hey it's Brad," he paused. "Is your mom angry that you're late?"
I sighed. "Furious! I'm running until I'm numb, I'll call you back in a bit."
"You shouldn't do that Arie. You haven't eaten a lot lately except for dinner."
"I know." I whispered into the phone.
"Goodnight Arie."
"Goodnight Bradley."
And I started running. I ran until my legs were jelly. I went to bed a sweaty mess. I fell asleep and my phone started ringing at 4 in morning.
"Hello?" I grunted.
"Hey, you alright?" He asked tiredly.
"Yeah, I just need some more sleep. Could you pick me up in the morning with dunkin donuts?"
"Yeah, sure, of course."
"Thanks." I hung up and went back to sleep.
