Leah's POV

She was avoiding me.

Again.

Yesterday I thought I had made some progress but today she seemed less distant and more hateful. One step forward and a million steps back. Today during lab, she avoided me completely, going so far to not just skip lab, but every class we shared. She even missed phys-ed where we practiced some basketball drills.

She loves basketball.

I learnt this fact on my little outing to the mall with her, which I would gladly call a date if she wasn't so hesitent. My father told me to take her out but my mothers told me to respect her boundaries. Well all my moms but my birth mother, who I considered my mother equally with my other moms so her opinion was just as valid. She said to do both, take her out, court her, let her love me in her own time but court her as friends. Befriend her and strengthen our bond before moving further instead of having a lot to learn later. Today her russet eyes wouldn't even look my way, and this is what I feared. That I was moving too slowly, that she would realize that I wasn't worth it. Sure I was an alpha to be and a lion at that, but every single part of my being insisted that I wasn't good enough for her and that I needed to be better to be by her side. There was always a chance that I would get another mate as lions always had more mates than most since we were known to be polyamorous but I knew that I wouldn't let Bridgette go, not now that I got to know her. Maybe before I made a move it would've been easier but it was too late now. No going back now I guess.

"Shit, sorry." I hear someone yelp. Sighing, I turn to the side to see none other than Bridgette herself, a spark of hope lights up within me. Is she trying to talk to me? Is that why she's so close to me? "I'm so sorry I'm just trying to get to my English class." Nope, just trying to get to Mr. Hunter's room. That tiny bit of hope dies down.

"Watch it, kitty! You made me spill my coffee!" Snarls an annoyingly familiar voice. Robert Chee, black panther with an ego the size of a boulder and a brain with the same functionality of one. I snicker when I see my mate's response, flicking the asshole off. There she is. I think, smiling.

And then I see it, her eyes meet mine and soften for the smallest fraction of a second before hardening to one less of annoyance and more of hatred. Perhaps they never did do so and I was simply imagining it but I pleaded that I didn't and that she was rethinking her sudden feelings of spite towards me.

An idea made its way into my head.

If I can't ask what's up, maybe someone else can.

"Oi, Bambi!" I whisper yell at the petite deer shifter. Cringing, she turns towards me.

"Yes, Alpha?" She says, barely masking the annoyance in her voice. It was obvious she hated me but the power I held over her was enough to make her respect my titles, that didn't stop her from hating me but she had basic respect towards me. Straining her voice to make sure she didn't snap at me and refusing to look at me in the eye was the most I could ask for from her. "Do you need something?" she asked.

"You're friends with Bridgette, right?"

"Yeah?"

"I need you to ask her what's up. She's been ignoring me and I need to know why."

"And if I refuse?" She glares at me, barely masking her hatred.

"Well that deal between your herd and my pride could easily be called off, it's just more prey for us." She's stunned for a second, but looks me straight in the eye before whispering
