Chapter 19

I tried to write their animal's scenes but it turned out bad so I scrapped it. There were a couple of things that would've been explained like what it's like when they shift to their animals but it was awkward. Sorry. This is twice as short as usual and I had a random dream that gave me a good plot idea so I abandoned this for today but Happy Pride Month, imma try to update 3 times this week.

Leah's POV:

Oh my goodness my lioness is annoying. I decide to let her out and she goes full on horny lion on poor Bridgette. We had to take turns so that my lion didn't scare her cat away and I if I swore on my life that if she wasn't tryna claw her way through the entire time, I'd be dead.

In the end I got to meet all of Bridgette's animals, ranging from a playful brown tabby to a lumbering kodiak bear. My family was overall pretty cool with Bridgette being a mutt, now I just need to deal with the others. I think they'll be fine with her too though. Well maybe not Brian judging by his response with Laith's mate, Aaron, but fuck Brian.

"Penny for your thoughts?" Bridgette asks. "I don't mean to intrude or anything but- but like I dunno you seem to focussing on something right now and I just got curious and I don't really want you to think I'm being nosey oh shit I'm rambling aren't-" I put my finger on her mouth.

"Shhhh you have a right to ask questions." I smile softly "and I was just a bit concerned about how the rest of the pride might take it." Bridgette's jaw dropped.

"There're more?" She worried. I chuckle before responding.

"A wild lion pride can have up to 20 lions, and we aren't wild. We can have a bunch." Bridgette looked me straight in the eyes.

"Can I have that chart now?" I laugh and shove her playfully.

I drop Bridgette off at her apartment in a comforting silence.

"Good night." I say softly after I walk her to the entrance of the building. Bridgette seems to be thinking about something before she leans forward and softly kisses me, murmuring three words that shocked me all over again.

"I love you."

I freeze, unsure of what to do as she pulls her hands off my shoulders and turns around, walking inside. I'm in a daze as I walk back to my car. I'm almost home, maybe a couple of miles away, when her words finally set in. My chest has a fluttery and light feeling to it and god it feels good.

My goodness I'm whipped.

I sat in the car, leaning my head against the steering wheel, not really doing much but thinking about nothing in particular, although most thoughts circulated around a particular person. Who would've thought I'd be attached to a person so quickly.

My phone lets out a bark and I snap out of my daydreaming. I chuckle, forgetting I had set my text tone to that. The bark was then followed by another. I fix my posture and grab my phone. And then I accidentally turn it off again. Shit, now I have to scroll down.

The first text message is from Bridgette, seeing her contact brings a smile to my face.

Matey💛:

I'm home safe.

I smile at the text before I click on the grouped texts. My eyes widen when I see the next text.

Nico🦁:

Milan has broken the arrangement. A powerful deer official has been killed. Get to the hospital. We need you.

Leah🦁:

Which hospital, I'm coming.

Nico🦁:

Denver Health.

I punch it into the GPS and head on over. Shit's about to go down.
