"Lexi, we have to talk." Tytan sat at the foot of my bed, in a tux, and didn't look directly at me. He'd been distant, just as we'd agreed. But it hadn't even been three days and here he was, looking like a disaster waiting to happen.

"I thought we weren't doing precisely that?"

"I know and I hate it. I hate being around you and sleeping in the same bed and not being able to talk to you!" Something in him was really hurting and I didn't have to know him to see it, but I did know him.

"How was it?" I asked him. He'd just returned from the Blackriver event, from what I could tell, and he looked shaken up to say the least.

"Lexi...I know this is hard for you, I know I ask you for too much already and I know I take advantage of your kindness and your love and you don't have to do this if you don't want to."

"Bullshit. Nobody else is going to do it, Tytan, so just tell me how it went."

"I should have taken you." He played with his hands, still not looking at me.

"You have a girlfriend, Tytan."

"And she's not you, Lexi." He finally looked at me. His cheek was a bright cherry red, it looked like it hurt. I wanted to reach out and hold him but it would hurt me more than I was up for.

"What happened?" I asked, hoping it would be enough.

"You weren't there," he smiled and I saw him wince.

"Just...get to the point, okay? How was it?"

"I don't know! I just sat around all night, trying to figure out what I was doing there and I didn't know." He was unraveling and I didn't know how to stop it, even temporarily.

"What about Rosie?" I hoped that would cheer him up but he shook his head and buried his head in his hands before looking back at me.

"What about her? Rosie didn't show. She said she couldn't stand my family and I understand, I do, I just--I just wish I didn't have to be there alone."

Oh. Right. That could only mean one thing and I wasn't sure how much I wanted to know if it was true. I closed my eyes momentarily, "Tytan, how drunk are you?"

"What are you talking about?"

"Don't play dumb with me, I know you're drunk."

"What was I supposed to do there?" The defensiveness was so much more prominent than I had imagined it would be.

"So you got drunk because you had nothing better to do? And now you're trying to fuck me because your first choice didn't show?"

"Lexi, no! I just--I had a few shots and that was it, okay? I'm not drunk!" He leaned in closer and took my hands. He didn't stink of alcohol, but I knew better.

"Oh shut the fuck up, I know you." I freed my hands from his.

"Just listen to me!"

"No, no! No, you're not good for me and I don't trust you."

"Lexi, I just need you to be my friend tonight, I don't want to fight with you, nor do I want to fuck you."

"We're not friends."

"No, we're not but I'm begging you to pretend like we are, just for a while. I need to say this--"

"No. Leave! You can take the sofa tonight."

"No, you're right, this won't work, I'm going." It sounded so definite, so final?

"What do you mean, going?"
