kavia pov

we followed him into his house and he asked us if we needed anything to eat or drink before taking us downstairs. mariana shot me a worried look until she realized it was his room.

"you guys don't have to keep the masks on if you don't want to," he said sitting down on the couch in his room.

"okay, if we've both been quarantining i'm sure it's fine," i replied pulling my mask off and putting it in my pocket, mariana doing the same. (i don't condone this it's just for the story)

"can i use your bathroom?" she asked quietly.

"sure, it's the door over there." mattia answered pointing to the left of her.

she nodded and walked away, leaving us alone.

"you can sit down if you want." he said holding eye contact with me.

"o-okay." i replied clearing my throat slightly. he slid over to one end of the couch and i sat down next to him.

"will your parents be okay with us coming in?" i questioned nervously.

"i'm sure they will if they know about your car. you can stay as long as you need to." he smiled.

"thank you, so much." i said returning the smile.

"no problem kavia." my heart jumped when he said my name.

"you can call me kav if you want, most of my friends do usually."

"okay." he smiled.

we stayed like that for a second in semi-awkward silence, just smiling and avoiding eye contact until mariana came back, interrupting our thoughts.

she stood next to me awkwardly for a moment until mattia stood up. "you can sit here, i'll sit in the chair." he said going over to his desk.

mariana sat down on the couch closer to me than he was, and he brought his desk chair over to us.

he sat in it, closer to my side then mariana's, and my heart jumped again. why do i keep feeling like this around him?

"so, what do you guys wanna do for the next couple hours?" mattia asked breaking the silence.

"have you slept yet?" i countered.

"no, my friends just left before i saw you guys. have you?" i smiled at the fact he was talking to me directly and not the both of us. no. it's only because mar is quiet, don't get excited.

"yeah, a few hours." i shifted my gaze to my hands, the eye contact getting too much. he made me so nervous. i began to get self conscious about being in sweatpants and a sweatshirt and stood up abruptly. "i need to go to the bathroom too."

he looked a little worried and so did mariana. she gave me a long "don't leave" look and i turned away.

"are you okay?" he asked.

"yeah, i just need to pee." i laughed and mentally slapped my forehead. a little too specific kavia.

"okay." he responded laughing.

i hurried into the bathroom and shut the door, immediately eyeing myself in the mirror. i actually didn't look too bad. at least i put on a bra, this could've been a lot worse.

i was wearing air forces and grey sweatpants, a navy blue crew neck sweatshirt. my messy bun that i slept in actually looked just the right amount of messy and cute. i wasn't wearing any makeup but at least i had gotten my eyebrows and nails done before me and mar left missouri.

i let my confidence boost a little and then went pee and washed my hands. as i walked back out into the room i noticed that only mariana was out there.

"where did mattia go?" i asked sitting back down on the couch next to her.

"upstairs to talk to his mom. he heard footsteps and wanted to let his parents know we were here." she replied.

"oh, okay." i said pulling out my phone, scrolling through instagram.

"kav, what the fuck are we doing here." she burst out making me look up.

"mari, please not now. we can talk later but we're on thin ice right now and i really don't need something going wrong." i answered putting down my phone and sitting up straight.

"i can't believe we're doing this." she rolled her eyes and turned away. "i can't believe we're here."

"is everything okay?" mattia butted in coming down the stairs. seeing him again made my breath hitch, he had a big effect on me.

"yeah, everything's fine." i replied with a smile and he returned it. i felt myself liking him and it scared me because i knew nothing good would come out of this.

mariana sighed and rolled her eyes, looking away from me again. mattia raised his eyebrow at me and i shook my head.

"i told my mom everything and she said you guys can stay here as long as you need to." mattia said sitting down bringing his chair close to me.

"when can we leave?" mariana asked without looking at me.

i picked up my phone to check the time. it said 5:48 am. i opened the weather app to see that the sun was supposed to rise at 6:49. "sunrise is at 6:49 am, it's 5:48 now. we'll call alana at around 7:15 ish to tell her we broke down in this neighborhood while going out to see the sunrise. so in about an hour and a half we can." i replied, seeing she was still facing away from me.

she stayed silent for a moment before turning to me fully. she looked between me and mattia then locked her eyes with mine. "you're getting pretty good at lying kav."
