Sometimes you are being put in an uncomfortable situation because Allah wants to fill your heart with sweetness of Imaan.
The knock had their hearts thudding. They didn't want anyone to see them in the state they were in. But before anything they both had one question in their minds.
Who could be at this hour?
Nargis glanced at the clock on the wall. 3:30 A.M.
Another knock and she immediately wiped her tears and covering her head jumped from the bed to open the door. As she peeped from the creak, she saw Zeeshan standing, his hands in his pockets, and her eyes widened a little. He looked up at her and smiled a tight lipped smile.
"Is Mehreen awake?" he whisper asked making her look back into the room at her hunched back and slowly nodded biting her lip.
"Can I come in?" She nodded and opened the door ajar for him.
Upon entering, he saw his sister sitting on the bed, her back facing him, her shoulders shaking every few seconds.
"Mehr?" he called softly and took a step closer to her. Soft sniffles could be heard as he reached at the foot of the bed. She didn't move.
"Chidiya?" he again called her while sitting at the foot of the bed and very slowly rested his hand on her head, caressing it. That was her undoing, and she turned suddenly burying her face in his chest, sobbing like there was no tomorrow. He immediately wrapped his arms around her as a lone tear escaped his eye, which he wiped away without any delay.
"Hey, what happened? Chidiya, I didn't know that you were a cry baby. So many big tears" he said trying to tease her, but his own voice betrayed him.
Seeing that Zeeshan wouldn't get any answer from his sister, Nargis decided to take the matter in her hands, and uttered the first thing that came to her mind. Not wanting to disclose the actual reason considering how he still blames himself, and knew that Mehreen wouldn't have wanted to do so too, she said slowly, "She said she will miss you all" making him look at her gratefully while nodding.
Zeeshan knew his sister inside out. He knew that she had been trying to be strong for him, which she was far from. His sister had grown suddenly after that incident and since then she had been the pillar for him. It was her who had suffered more than him, it was her whose soul was violated and it was her who deserved to cry in front of him and be in his embrace, like she did today. But never before.
It was always her who was there to console him after he woke up from coma. She would sit by his side twenty four hours waiting for him to wake up from his nightmares so that she could wrap her arms around him and comfort him. The times when she was asleep by his side, he would stare at her tired face and apologize numerous times for the things that happened with her.
He knew that she would be crying tonight, and he also knew that her crying wasn't all of because she was leaving tomorrow; it was many other things too. Tightening his hold around her he kept whispering comforting words in her ear.
Feeling as if she was intruding in a private moment of the siblings, she slowly walked away, when a hand held hers and her heart stopped. She looked at the person, and her heart started racing when she saw it belonged to none other than Zeeshan, who wasn't even looking at her, leaving her breathless. As if realizing, his hand slowly slipped and pinched the end of her sleeve, when he turned his head to look at her, all the while comforting Mehreen.
"Stay" he mouthed, his eyes held sadness along with unshed tears and she couldn't help but comply with a nod, her heart hammering against her ribcage, while their hands hanging in between them.
