katsuki ducks his head down to bite an orange slice from izuku's hand, his brows furrowed as he grumpily tells izuku about his music class, "and i kept telling sensei that no, that the melody fucking clashed with the chord progressions i already had!" he tilts his head upwards, crimson eyes checking if pine-green ones are paying attention.

and they are, izuku's full attention is on the blonde in his arms as they feed each other oranges while the television plays quietly in the background. katsuki's parents are in the dining room, eating while finishing some work. unlike hisashi's drunken rants or scoldings, this type of loudness has izuku's chest warm with a feeling he hadn't felt since many years ago - home, he decides, it feels like home.

"so what did you do, then?" izuku asks, tilting his head. the corners of katsuki's lips slightly turn up, and izuku immediately knows from the smirk that katsuki must have been right.

"i grabbed my damn guitar and-"

all might's theme song rings loudly through the room, cutting katsuki's sentence short. he glares as izuku looks at him apologetically, grabbing his phone to answer the call. "s-sorry, kacchan, i think i have to answer this," izuku frowns after glancing at the caller i.d..

it's the second time a phone call interrupts his conversation with izuku and katsuki finds himself wanting to blast the phone into pieces, consequences be damned.

instead, he shifts in izuku's arms, flipping his body to press his face into izuku's chest as he answers the call. he rolls his eyes when izuku gives him a questioning look, before boldly grabbing izuku's free hand and leading it to his hair. he doesn't say anything else, waiting for izuku to understand what he wants.

while the freckled boy isn't a mind reader, his eyes widen with realization as he begins running his fingers through katsuki's surprisingly soft hair. the blonde boy lets out a content sigh as his eyes flutter shut from the gentle touch, the tips of his ears pink as he lays on his friend's chest.

"h-hey, what's up?" izuku fights the urge to scream as he looks down at katsuki in his arms, the body heat of the older boy making the heat from his embarrassment just the more unbearable.

mari's modulated voice rings out, "hey, i know we said we'd call at eleven, but we have a problem."

if izuku hadn't known mari since they were kids, he wouldn't have caught the slight tightness in her words, causing him to tense momentarily, "uh...can you elaborate on that?" he continues running his fingers through katsuki's hair, making the explosive boy purr. in the back of izuku's mind, he can't help but compare the teen to a cat.

"have you not seen the news yet?"

"no...i've been watching 'all things heroes' with kacchan. why?" izuku lifts one of his brows as if mari could see him. at the sound of his nickname, katsuki opens one eye suspiciously, but izuku simply shakes his head as if to placate his worries. 'it's mari-chan,' izuku mouths, pointing at his phone. seemingly deeming mari worthy enough of gaining izuku's attention, katsuki closes his eye once again, becoming sleepy with the lulling touch of izuku's fingers. from his spot on izuku's chest, katsuki can hear izuku's heartbeat, the steady pulse reassuring him that no, izuku didn't die that day.
