Y/N flew until the evening. She kept low to the buildings to stay off the radar of both pro heroes and the mafia. For the rest of the night, they walked. Fatigue was taking hold of her now that she exhausted her quirk. It was three in the morning when Y/N and the man stopped in the middle of an alley.
She leaned against the concrete wall and folded her arms before she sighed, "I think we lost them for the night."
The man stood in front of her unimpressed. He didn't have time to stop. But being next to this girl was simply bad luck. If he wanted to stay out of trouble he needed to stay away from her. And the further away he was from her the better.
"Good. I'm leaving." He walked deeper into the alley without another look at her.
Y/N watched him slowly fade into the darkness. As much as she preferred to be alone, their chance of survival was much higher if they stuck together. His fire was very powerful but it wasn't going to save him from a bullet. Which a lot of them will be heading their way.
She stared at him glumly before she said, "You can't leave."
"What the hell makes you say that?" The man turned to her and waited for her answer.
"Because you saw me alive as a witness," she countered. "He wants you as well."
"You're right." He finally said.
"But I'm just a stranger. I doubt the mafia would take me seriously even if I did tell them the story.
"I also don't care about you. I don't mind trading you in for my life. So my question is this: Why shouldn't I turn you over?"
The man glared at her as he asked the question.
He was a true pain in the ass. He had no idea what they were up against. Y/N knew she could beat him in a fight even without her quirk but she simply wasn't looking for one.
"You'll just be doing his job for him." She said bluntly.
"And once you're done with his dirty work..." Y/N got off the wall before she returned the same cold look he gave to her. "Then he'll kill you."
"He wants his transition to power to be smooth as possible. He'll try to tie up those loose ends." She finished.
"If that's the case then the entire city is after us." The man began to close the distance between them.
By the time Y/N realized what he was doing it was too late. He snatched her by the collar of her shirt and pulled her closer. There were centimeters of space between them. Y/N gripped his wrists as he held her in place.
"We're going to die because of your bullshit." He growled.
"We won't." She snapped.
"Oh really? Then start talking." The man shoved her back into the wall.
She clenched her fist before she let go. It wasn't his fault that he was in this mess but wasn't hers either. Y/N understood his anger but his behavior was out of hand even for her.
Y/N fixed her shirt before she spoke, "Daichi had problems with the yakuza."
"Last time we were there he started a turf war. Kazue won't go there." She explained.
"That's a different prefecture." His eyes narrowed.
"Yes, I know. But we don't have a choice. If we stay here they're going to find us. We have to travel by night." She let out a quiet sigh.
Y/N knew it wasn't much of a plan at all. She had little information to work with. The mafia may have been stationed in one city but their power was across the prefecture.
The man stayed silent. He knew it was going to be difficult to avoid the mafia and almost impossible to make it there. All he could do is try and burn whatever stood in their way. He walked away from her without a word.
"Where are you going?" She raised her voice.
"Y/N, right?" He asked.
She tilted her head in confusion. Although Kazue yelled her name out pretty loud, she was still surprised he remembered it through the chaos.
She calmed herself before she answered, "Yeah."
"You said we have to travel by night. I know a place where we can lie low." He responded.
Well, at least something got through... Y/N thought.
"Now can I get your name?" She said.
The man was still walking when he answered, "You can call me Dabi."
Y/N rolled her eyes in his direction. Clearly, that wasn't his real name. And if it was, his parents must've had a twisted sense of humor. She didn't have the energy to argue with him. Y/N dragged her feet along and followed Dabi deeper into the dark alley.
