The unwrapped package sat still on the surface of the wooden table wrapped in red silk ribbon, almost begging to be opened to the one it was gifted to. My apartment embraced the quiet chants of the elevator opening and closing along with my racing heartbeat.
I flinched in surprise as the doorbell rang once again. The threat over the phone still rang through my ears. It was enough to leave me in fear of what was to come next yet not enough to reveal the identity of who was the potential enemy.
I chartered my way towards the door to peek through the hole to see who was awaiting on the other side of the door. My hands met the cold surface of the door as I leaned over with slight hesitation in my stance. If possible my heart pounded harder against my chest, leaving me breathless.
"Ms.Rossi?" The voice coming from the other side of the door was the one I had heard multiple times. It was Gavrill.
I stepped away from the door to compose myself. Taking a deep breath, I opened the entrance for the now overly concerned bodyguard. As he saw me untouched his face raked of relief.
"Are you okay Ms.Rossi?" He asked as I stepped to the side of the entrance to let him in. He took my action as a cue to enter the apartment. Closing the door behind him, he glanced around the apartment to see anything that seemed out of the ordinary.
When he finally was done with his examination, he brought his eyes back to me.
"I'm fine." I finally whispered as I noticed he was still awaiting my response to his question.
"I should call Mr.Rossi up immediately." He added back as he pulled away from the entrance to place the call to my father. I knew the consequences of calling my father would be heavy and potentially come with the price of me having to leave my just started life in Manhattan for a plane ticket back home.
"Gavrill." I called out as he typed on the keypad of digits on his device. He looked at me as he waited for me to continue.
"Could you please leave my father out of this situation for the moment? I just mean he won't take it well." I reasoned, hoping it would be enough for him to consider my request. He already knew how much my father was concerned about my safety which meant he also knew how hard it was for him to let me stay far away from his reach.
"But, Ms.Rossi I have orders from Mr.Rossi." He tried to explain.
"Just this one time, let it go. If the situation becomes more severe you can go ahead and contact my father." I said, as he nodded his head before placing his phone back into the inside pocket of his suit blazer.
"Would you like for me to drop you off to work Ms.Rossi?" Gavrill questioned as I eyed the ribboned parcel and wondered whether or not to inform him of the surprise gift left on my doorstep.
"Um yes, you could wait outside. I just need to grab the files and my phone from the coffee table." I told him as I decided to leave the detail out of his file. He already had enough reason to contact my father, adding more to the list would only favor his idea further.
"I'll just be outside then." He mentioned before turning around and exiting the door.
Taking a composed look around my apartment, I headed towards the coffee table where the accounting files and my phone laid. I grabbed the belongings, blowing the candle I had lit early morning as I made my way to the exit as well.
My watch indicated that I was behind my usual schedule and the traffic was going to add on to that. In hopes of skipping the traffic, I locked the apartment door before heading towards the elevator with Gavrill.
"Are you behind schedule Ms.Rossi?" He questioned as he caught me glancing at my watch two times in a short amount of time.
"Slightly." I answered back with a sigh, knowing how much Ruben hated tardiness towards work, but hopefully my late night stay at the office would excuse my late arrival at the office.

The car ride from my apartment to the office was unsurprisingly long, not leaving me with the least amount of time to even glance over at my watch wrapped around my wrist.
Sparing a good day to Gavrill, I headed to the building's entrance. Gavrill didn't miss to mention that he would be working from outside of the building today in case of an emergency. Knowing there was no reason to argue with him, I just nodded.
The receptionist glanced my way before glancing over the clock bolted over my head. She also knew the temper her boss carried and wasn't even trying in the least to hide the fact that I may be a victim of it.
I just made my way to the elevators in a haste to the ninth floor, making sure to stop the files from slipping from my grasp.
The ride to the top seemed longer than it was needed to feel and it wasn't long after that thought when the doors of the elevator whiplashed to the ninth floor of the office building.
I quietly made my way to my cabin which was still empty of any work related files. I placed all the files in my hands on the desk before placing the rest of my belongings in the nearby couch chair. The clock read 9:32 am which meant I was an hour behind my schedule.
I straightened my emerald skirt out with my shaking hands before gathering my composure to head towards my boss's cabin.
As usual the door was shut tight and the blurred glass did not help in verifying whether there was someone inside of the office. I knocked on the office door waiting for permission to enter.
"Come in." A voice answered to my knock as I sighed and curled my hand around the door handle before opening it slowly.
There he was looking picture perfect in his tailored suit as I stood there like a kid who was caught with their hand in the cookie jar.
"Close the door behind you Ms.Rossi, maybe I should teach you how to read the time."
