The sun has already set hours ago, it's now nine P.M when we finally pull up at my house. The living room lights were off meaning Xan must be at his girlfriend's tonight, I wonder why that boy doesn't move in with her. I guess I'll never know, even though a part of me wishes he never moves out.
I reach for my school bag from the back seat of Valentino's car, buttoning up my blazer while at it.
"This must be your stop then Ari, I'll pick you up tomorrow." Valentino says from the drivers side of his car.
"You don't have to really, you've done so much for me." I say climbing out of the car. He really doesn't have to go the extra mile with all the things he has done for me.
"Nonsense I'll pick you up."
"Thank you, I really appreciate it. I guess I'll be seeing you tomorrow morning."
"Sleep well Ari, can't wait to see you again tomorrow." Valentino starts his car and flashing me one of his dazzling smiles before driving off.
I watch his car drive out the gate and into the night. Turning around, I look at the dark house in front of me. I walk up the front porch setting my bag on the rail. Searching for my house keys in my forever messy bag.
"Where are they?" I mutter to myself.
Giving up on trying to find my keys, I crouch down next to the pot plant placed next to the door, lucky there is always a spare key just in case things like this happen. Stepping into the dark house, softy closing the door behind me. I switch on the lights, throwing my bag on the couch before making my way upstairs to take a bath.
I walk down the quiet hallway, closing the curtains and windows while at it. Entering my bedroom, switching on the lights and heading to the bathroom. I make my way to the bath, turning the tap on. Pouring my vanilla scented bubble bath and a few scented salts inside, I walk over to the mirror on the other side of the spacious bathroom. Stripping out of uniform while standing in front of the mirror. It's a daily thing for me to stand in front of the mirror so I can see who I really am.
"Today I made a friend, his name is Valentino." I say to the girl looking back at me in the mirror.
"He is handsome, flawless, funny and amazing..
"Today he stood up for me, you know. He lied and told everyone in my class we are dating and he even asked me to hangout with him after school." Taking off my glasses and sit on the cold floor in just my underwear.
"We went to a café called Versco, it was beautiful, elegant and peaceful. I ruined the moment by not talking to him and I cried and ran to the park. Can you believe he actually came after me and told me he wants to be my friend and that he doesn't care about the fact I don't have friends."
"We drove around the city for hours. I had so much fun with him that a part of me was sad when we departed. It was a great feeling to have company. To go out with someone, to be considered someone's friend. Instead of coming home and doing homework and cook supper for me and Xan. For the first time I'm home later than I usually get back, cruising around the city and having fun."
I sit there staring at the girl in the mirror, wondering how I finally have a friend. After so many years of not having one I can finally say the words that I have longed to say.
"I have a friend."
The girl in the mirror looks the same but today there is a small spark in her eyes. I look away from the mirror, hating the emptiness I feel in my chest.
Getting up from the floor and completely undress stepping into the bath, the warm water burning some of today's worries. I scrub my body with the coconut scent bar soap, leaving my hair dry.
Stepping out of the bath after the water has gone cold, I grab my fluffy purple towel wrapping in around my body. Making my way to my closet, moisturising and grab a pair of new undergarments, red sweat pants, an oversized white T-shirt with socks.
Once I'm fully dressed, I walk over my way to my desk. Grabbing my diary and pen, writing today's date and time. I write the words light and first friend on the first line and close my diary. Getting up I make my way downstairs towards the living room.
I take out my homework and Henry's Biology assignment, I wonder if he realises that we are writing a test about this tomorrow not that he cares. Starting with his assignment first, drawing graphs and diagrams.
A few minutes in the assignment the door bell rings. Staring at the direction where the door is, panic rises in my chest wondering who could be knocking at this time.
I make my way towards the kitchen quickly opening one of the drawers, pulling out a small pocket knife and tuck it in my pocket. I slowly make my way to the door, hesitantly opening it. Pecking my head out the door, Valentino stands there his back facing me.
"Valentino?" I asked trying to calm down, what is he doing here at this time
"Hey, I'm sorry for dropping by at this time." Valentino says rubbing the back of his neck nervously.
"No, it's totally fine, do you need something?"
"No, I just came here to give you your cellphone back, you left it in my car when you left." He pulls out my cellphone from his pocket, holding it out.
I take my cellphone from him, "Thank you, I didn't even notice that it was gone."
"You're welcome Goodnight Arizona."
"Good Night Valentino. "
I watch him walk down to his car parked on the driveway. Closing the door behind dragging a hand through hair.
His cute.
