"So you're saying we're hybrids, that's why we're allowed in here?" Evie asked, staring at the two males in front of her.
"Probably or something along those lines." Jungwoo said as Mark took deep breaths, drinking his water again. "At least you definitely are."
"What makes you think that?" Lucas asked, leaning forward towards Jungwoo. "She smells very much like a vampire."
"For some reason, I find that hard to believe." Jungwoo said, narrowing his eyes. "Wolves can only mate with other wolves. Evie must have some wolf blood running through her veins."
"If I did, I would know, wouldn't I?" Evie asked. Mark only shrugged.
"What Jungwoo is saying makes sense though. Evie being part werewolf makes the most logical sense." Mark said, agreeing with Jungwoo. "But hybrids, I forgot how they turn."
"Werewolves can turn into hybrids by having the blood of a hybrid in their system." Jungwoo explained. "Evie, who turned you?"
"Ten." Evie said, sinking into the couch as she crossed her arms. "Who's definitely not a hybrid. And if it wasn't obvious enough, I'm not a werewolf."
"How do you know?" Jungwoo asked, challenging the girl. "Have you ever killed someone? Have you ever triggered the werewolf curse? Just so you know, turning vampires doesn't count in case that wasn't clear enough."
Lucas could sense Evie's anger start to bubble so he quickly took the girl's hand, deciding to change the topic. "What about me? I'm a regular werewolf but I'm still here. How do you explain that?"
"Well your mate isn't so that means that something is off with you too." Jungwoo said, shifting his focus to Lucas. "We all know that werewolf mates can't be too far apart after they meet, so the spell must have allowed you in. Have you turned into wolf form since you came?"
Lucas hesitated as he thought for a moment before shaking his head. "I haven't."
"Try." Jungwoo suggested, leaning back into the couch.
"Here?!" Lucas exclaimed. Jungwoo nodded.
"We have a warlock here if your wolf form causes trouble. Go for it."
"You're pretty daring for a human." Lucas heard Evie mumble as he got up, moving away so he had some space.
Lucas took a deep breath, closing his eyes. He called upon his wolf form like he did so many times before, but to his surprise, nothing happened.
He opened his eyes, glancing at Evie who was practically begging him to be able to transform, to prove the others wrong. He bit his lip, closing his eyes again as he tried to turn but once again, nothing happened. This confirmed Jungwoo's suspicions.
"Well, now that we got that all figured out, let's get food. I'm starving." Jungwoo said, clapping his hands together.
Lucas could only feel guilt in his stomach as Evie stared down at her lap, eyes filled with sadness.
...
Evie could feel Lucas's eyes on her the entire time as she sat there on their couch, fiddling with her sunlight ring. She hadn't said much since Jungwoo had suggested that she was a werewolf that simply hadn't triggered the curse yet.
Lucas knew her well, deciding not to push, simply sitting down beside her. She let the malel take her hand, giving it a squeeze. "Do you want to go on date tomorrow?"
"Tomorrow?" Evie asked and that's when she realized what the date was. "Oh my gosh, it's Christmas!"
Lucas chuckled, rubbing her back to comfort her. "Don't worry, with everything going on, I forgot too. Jungwoo's little christmas tree reminded me thought."
