The morning came rather quickly, the girls in your dorm didn't wake you up. Classes started in thirty minutes and you haven't even gotten your schedule. You struggled to get your robes on and didn't even care about your hair as you raced to the great hall. There was an empty seat by a few third years, you pushed down your nerves and sat down. Their eyes looked at you in a cold stare before continuing their conversation.

"Ms. Druid, you must've slept in...Anyways here's your schedule. I'd suggest eating fast and heading to potions early." You took the schedule and ate only a piece of cold toast before making your way out and down the stairs.

You then ran into a boy, "I-i'm sorry, here let me he-" The boy quickly grabbed the textbook and walked past you. He had black hair that went to his shoulder, he was in Slytherin. He reminded you of yourself in a way. You opened the potions door and sat down in the back of the class, everyone was already there and seated. The class bored you, it was just note taking. The ravenclaws in the classroom kept raising their hands to answer the professors questions that weren't meant to be answered. Once the bell rang you quickly closed the book and walked up the stairs and headed to Transfiguration. The halls had a few students just standing and chatting and others who were, like you, struggling to find their classes.

"Y/n!" A familiar voice was behind you. You quickly turned and wanted to smile but couldn't. Sirius had called your name. He was accompanied by Remus and a boy with black hair and glasses.

"Oh, I guess I have this class with Gryffindor." Remus was still shy around you and you took your eyes off of him and looked at the boy with glasses, "I'm y/n, you are?"

He smiled and moved his hair out of his eyes, "I'm James Potter." Sirius opened the door for all of you and you sat in one of the middle rows. Sirius and James sat behind you meaning Remus would sit next to you. Sirius leaned forward, "Remus, I can guarantor she won't bite." His cheeks flushed a red color, you thought it was weird, was he overheating. Honestly you've never been around other kids, your mom home schooled you. Your parents were scared you might turn a kid into a bird if you went to a muggle school. Again this class was just note taking so you didn't really focus too much. At one point you lost track of what the subject was and turned to Remus.

"Have you been paying attention, I'm lost..." He was already looking at you and his face went red again.

"Oh uh, I think she's just talking about basics."

James nudged him with his wand, "You really aren't paying attention, we're talking about what animals you shouldn't turn something into." He was even redder, you decided it would be better to just not speak with him too much. When the bell rang you decided to stick with them as they walked to the Great Hall for lunch.

Sirius started the conversation, "Haven't met any Hufflepuff friends, y/n?"

"No...the girls in my dorm don't seem to like me. They said I'm not a Hufflepuff..."

Remus seemed angry with that, "Sounds like they shouldn't be Hufflepuff's, any house would be lucky to have you in it." He smiled at you, a weird feeling entered your stomach.

"Looks like Remus is making his move!" James pushed him.

"I don't like her like that James!" Something finally clicked in your head, love. Just like in the book you were reading. You had butterflies in your stomach! They sat at their house table and your smile faded as you went over to yours. A fifth year looked up at you. "You're a first year? I'm Elliot, honestly when eating and in our common room...you can sit with me so you're not lonely."

"Really? Oh I'm y/n, and yes I'm a first year..."

"Any classes interest you?" He took a bite of his sandwich.

"No, however I am looking forward to defense against the dark arts. I think that's after lunch." He chuckled but stopped when he saw you. You thought you said something wrong.

"I was just laughing because everyone likes that class..." You ate half of your sandwich and got up. "Leaving? You hardly ate..."

"Not hungry..." You walked out and stood in the hall outside of your next class. The textbook was pretty heavy so you put it away. In front of you were two other first years, that boy you ran into earlier and a redhead girl who was in Gryffindor. The girl left and the boy seemed like he was about to shake.

"AH!" He jumped when he saw you looking at him.

"I'm sorry if I scared you...I didn't get your name from earlier? I'm y/n if it makes it more comfortable for me to go first."

He looked down and mumbled, "I'm Severus..." Your eyes sparkled after hearing his name. "That's a name I haven't heard of, I like it, it's cool." He looked at you then gave a confused look. He kind of sneered at you, "What are you, a girl or boy? That hair is confusing me."

You froze and had a whole debate in your head, "I-I'm neither...I just like to be referred to as they..." He nodded then walked into the class as the bell rang, "That's cool...can you maybe sit next to me..." You smiled and followed the boy in. The class started to fill up and Malfoy sat in front of you two.

"I've been wondering when I'd get to talk to you again, y/n. I see you're friends with Severus, he likes to hang out with that Lily girl..."

"Lucius...you make it sound like a bad thing?"

"Oh I'm just saying, she is a mudbloo-"

"Malfoy, don't finish that word." Snape snapped, your parents mentioned mudbloods but it didn't seem bad. You wanted to ask but decided you shouldn't anger Severus. After class however Severus left so fast you had no idea what direction he went. The Great Hall was open for studying so you went there hoping to find him. Right as you got through the crowd and down the stairs your arm was pulled.

"Why are you in such a rush? Y/n why don't you chill with me." Lucius gave a sly smile and waited for a response.

"I'll chill with you in a moment. Just let me go talk to Severus, his friend isn't with him."

Lucius rolled his eyes and dropped your arm, "Alright, I'll let you try to comfort him. Your Hufflepuff is showing." You rolled your eyes back at him in response as you walked over to the end of the Slytherin table.

"Potions? Do you like that class, it's been boring for me so far..." He slowly closed the textbook and looked around making sure you were talking to him.

"It's an alright class...Malfoy seems to want to talk to you, he's staring." You didn't even look, you sat down across from Severus and smiled.

"He can wait, you and Lily seem like good friends...I'm jealous."

"Yeah but she's decided to hang out with some of the Gryffindor's while I study. Wait why are you jealous-"

"I, I just would like a close relationship like that..."

"I think Lucius wants that, I'm happy you wanted to talk to me but...I'd like to study." He opened the book and zoned you out. You sighed and got up walking over to Lucius with an annoyed look.

"I tried to hint to you, he'd rather be alone."

"If you didn't invite me to be with you on the train, I would also rather like to be left alone."
