Where's the Holiday Spirit Gone

 Winter was cold but very pretty. You stayed up late just to watch the dark blue sky and try to find constellations. Severus decided to hang out with you and Lucius while Lily was with the Gryffindor's. Classes have finally finished so you went outside and waited by the tree, hoping Severus and Lucius would come not arguing. You pulled out the book Remus gave you, you were halfway, and started to read.

"You really like that book," Severus sat down next to you with a book in his hand, "Who gave it to you? If you don't mind me asking." You smiled and handed him the book, he started to flip through pages and you doze off at the sky.

"Remus did, he doesn't know I know he gave me it. You wouldn't like it, it's a romance."

"Try me." He slipped something in his pocket without you realizing and handed the book back to you. You laid back on the snow and got startled when Lucius appeared peering down at you.

"Daydreaming?" You sat up and hid your face in your scarf, "You were thinking of someone! Severus I think our little innocent Y/n has a crush."

"I do not!"

"Lucius it's obvious they don't want to talk about it." Lucius sat in front of the two of you and rolled up a snowball, tossing it from hand to hand.

"So are you two staying back for the holidays or going home?" You sighed and pulled out an opened letter from your pocket.

"Parents are busy at work, I'm staying so I don't have to stay with that weird neighbor girl."

Severus didn't seem as gloomy, "I'm staying too, Lily said she was going home..." You smiled at him and Lucius gagged.

"Bleh, I don't know how you could love that-" You gave him a death glare and he rolled his eyes, "Girl...I would stay too but my family wants me back home." You and Severus started to read and Lucius was throwing snowballs at the tree, up until the sun was basically gone. You made your way to your dorm but once you got into your common room you were happy to be there, which was rare. Elliot was sitting by the fire, just staring at it. You skipped over and sat next to him, "You alright?"

He smiled and put a letter into his pocket, "Fine, looks like I'm staying for Christmas for once..." You gave a confused look but your happy mood faded when a tear went down his face. He wiped it and stood up, "You shouldn't worry about me and hey, we can spend Christmas morning together. No other Hufflepuff has decided to stay." He forced a smile and you forced one as well.

You woke up the next morning, around past lunch, you walked out of your room and remembered that everyone was gone. You quickly got dressed and started to walk out to the Great Hall for lunch. It was weird to see almost no one in there. Also there was only one long table, you assumed it was because only a few students stayed behind.

"Y/n! Come sit with us!" Sirius was raising his hand and waving it around. Remus shyly waved at you, Severus and Elliot weren't around so you shrugged and sat by them. "Just wake up?"

"Yup...I might've stayed up a bit too late. I'm almost done with this book, funny actually, I don't know who gave it to me." Remus's face turned a little red. "Or maybe I do...who knows I might've been up while a few students came in with an invisibility cloak." Sirius broke out laughing unable to stop.

"Y/n, you, haha. Remus they know it was you." Remus hid his face with his hand. You looked at them confused and looked through the book.

"Did you guys hide something?" You found nothing and you couldn't tell if Remus was relieved or even more worried. "Well I should go find Severus or maybe Elliot. I'll see you two later." You got up and quickly walked out. The hall was so silent, you could hear your footsteps echo. The library had movement in it so you decided to see if you could find either of them. You quickly went down each aisle until you finally found Severus who was just sending an owl away with a letter. "Who did you write to?"

He slightly jumped, "Just Lily, where were you all morning?"

"Sleeping, then chilled with Remus and Sirius. I think Remus might...might have a crush on me."

"You just noticed, even if he did what would you do?"

"I don't know, stay friends. I have a crush on him yes but someone else has taken my heart." He gave you a confused look then rolled his eyes.

"Of course you'd go for Elliot, he's older and is open with yo-"

"What, no? Elliot told me he has a thing for our prefect." Severus then took a minute to think and got up and started to walk out and you followed.

"I overheard Elliot and I think you should go check on him. He's probably in your common room." You stopped in your tracks then quickly walked down the steps to your common room and there he was, crying on the couch.

"Elliot? What happened, you tell me everything." You stood over him and he looked at you with a numb look.

"My parents were murdered, I'm an orphan now..." You covered your mouth trying not to yelp. Your parents were working this holiday, it most likely had to do with that. "Just leave me alone y/n, go see that Severus boy. I know you love him...and you don't need to be here mopping with me."
