I blinked open my eyes. A smile already across my face. When I realised what day it was my smile grew, stretching from either side of my face. I stared up at the ceiling. “I’m getting married. Today. I’m getting married today! Oh my god!” I said trying to remind myself.
For the first time in my life I couldn’t wait to jump out of bed and get ready for the day ahead of me. I lifted back the curtain nearest me and peered out across the estate, looking at Liam’s old house. The curtains to his room were wide open. I guess he was just as eager as I as was to get married. I sprung out of bed and pulled my dressing gown around me, when there was a knock at the door.
“I thought I could hear you moving around up here. You’re up early! I thought I was going to have to throw water over you like I used to!” My mum said still clutching the door handle. I could understand why she was so surprised. I never once woke up this early so willingly; even on birthdays and Christmas’ I would be clinging desperately to the duvet not wanting to move.
“Aria’s just turned up. She’s early as usual.” My mum walked away and back down the stairs. I followed her and was greeted by best friend hugging me so tightly I could hardly breathe.
“Okay don’t strangle me to death.”
“Sorry, I’m just so excited.” She said almost bouncing up and down with excitement. For once I was feeling the same excitement. Although I was beginning to get butterflies in my stomach and I was slightly worried about how I was going to eat this morning. My mum was definitely not going to let me go without any. After all “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day!” I groaned thinking back to all the times when she had forced food on me when I had had a hangover. She really was one of the most persistent women I knew. Never giving in until she had her way. My dad used to say that her stubbornness had rubbed off on me and I was exactly the same. I begged to differ.
“Bacon sandwich to keep you going today?” She said handing me and plateful. My lack of appetite had disappeared and had been replaced by a craving to eat these sandwiches. I dived into them and savoured there taste. My mum insisted that Aria should eat something to, on grounds that she didn’t want the maid of honour fainted during the service.
After finishing our breakfast, Janet turned up and was ready to do my hair and makeup.
“Ready to get married then Becks?” She said setting up her things on the table next to us whilst I sat down in the chair that had been put out for me.
“Yeah I think so!” I said, thinking that I couldn’t wait to get to the church. I knew that the next few hours was going to go so slowly. After around two hours of doing makeup and trying to get my hair curl and hold in the right places, I was completely ready and my bridesmaids hair was done. I looked at my reflection in the mirror in front of me. I looked so different but amazing. I could hardly believe that the girl I was looking at was me. Janet had put a lilac colour eye shadow and blended it in with a soft darker purple colour. It had a pale rose pink lipstick on and rosy cheeks from the blush.
My hair was curled and the top layer pinned at the back of my head with a small silver broach covered in small silver diamantes all except one. There was one single blue diamante to symbolise ‘something blue’.
“Thanks Janet, you’ve done an amazing job!” I said still looking at my reflection.
“You’re welcome!” She said happily smiling at her work.
I looked over my shoulder to see Molly holding a camcorder. I should have guess someone would be armed with one this morning.
“And here is the bride, slightly smaller than forty inches wide, complete with hair and makeup.” She commentated.
I chuckled. “Mol, this is a wedding video, not a wildlife documentary.”
“I don’t know you haven’t seen what the men have recorded on here yet!” she said looking over at Aria.
Aria smirked. “Let’s just say you’re in for a treat tonight Beck!”
“What the hell is that suppose to mean? What have they done? Am I going to be able to show this video to Nan?” I said unnerved by what they were telling me.
“Oh yeah, it’s just them mucking around.”
“Okay...” I said still confused and fearful as to what they were on about.
“Come on enough talking, time to get you into your dress!” Aria said shooing me up the stairs. I walked up the stairs trying not to move my head too much as to wreck Janet’s work. I stepped through into my parents bedroom where my mother was waiting already dress and ready to head to the church.
“You look amazing mum!” I said twirling my finger, gesturing for her to spin around so I could see the whole outfit.
“Thanks Beck. Why are you standing like that? You look like you’ve got something stuck up your a-“ she began to say.
“Yes okay! I’m trying not to knock my hair. I don’t want to ruin anything. I want to look perfect for Liam.”
“You do look perfect darling. Now come on let’s get you in this dress. “My mum reached up and unhooked the dress off the coat hanger.
After lots of shimmying and pulling on both mum and Aria’s part the dress was on. Today it seemed to fit even more perfectly than I had remembered the other day. I twirled around in it, feeling like a princess.
“I think the photographers here Beck.” Aria said slipping on her dress besides me.
“You look amazing Ar!”
“Thanks Beck, you look beautiful too!”
With some help from my mum and Aria I was able to walk down the stairs with ease. I went into the dining room where everyone was busy getting ready to see Daisy setting up her equipment.
“Wow don’t you look amazing!” She said turning around with the camera and snapping a photo.
I blinked as the flash blinded me. “Oh I was expecting that!” I said, my eyes still recovering from the light.
“I know, they’re always the best photos, the unexpected ones. They’re the most natural ones.” She explained.
“Okay.” I said still unsure whether or not that could be right. Thinking back to some of the unexpected ones on my Facebook page, I was inclined to disagree with her.
My mother handed out the bouquets which had been delivered this morning by the florist. The bridesmaids bouquets were white roses with one single purple rose in them. Mine was much larger with purple and white roses held together by a white ribbon tying the bunch together.
After several different shots of me and my bridesmaids, Daisy had finished with us for the mean time. The moment I had been waiting for all morning was about to happen; going to the church.
Liz’s husband, John had decorated my parents car and my auntie’s with purple and white ribbons tied to the bumper and up to either side of the windscreen. I followed my bridesmaids out through the door and was greeted by our neighbours standing outside their houses watching us get into the cars. Some were taking photographs and for a split second I felt like a movie star. John opened the front door of the car and I hopped in next to my dad was driving the car.
“You alright Beck?” He said with one hand on the steering wheel. I nodded, the nerves starting to get the better of me. “You look beautiful!”
“Thanks dad.” I said taking a deep breath as he drove up the road and over the bridge leading to the church. We came to the cross roads and I could see people waiting outside the church where I was about to get married. There was so many people and I was really starting to get nervous now. We turned into the street and I closed my eyes praying that I wouldn’t fall when getting out of the car. It wouldn’t surprise me if I did, it was hardly uncharacteristic for me to do so.
My dad parked the car outside the church and went round to my side of the car and opened the door. Everyone standing outside the church cheered as I got out of the car successfully without tripping up.
I walked with my bridesmaid into the entrance of the church. Now for the scary part!
