I pulled into the surgery car park and quickly fumbled around for my bag. I grasped it and opened the door slamming it shut behind me. I locked it behind me as I briskly walked over to the entrance.
I opened the door and looked up at the clock on the wall of the waiting room; eight fifty nine. I slouched my shoulders back relaxing. I was one minute off being late. Not that it matter much because I was pretty much self employed; well I owned a third of the business. But I hated being late because although I was practically my own boss being late put pressure on my colleagues; otherwise known as Carmen and Halley.
“Hi Becks! Good weekend?” Halley said with a knowing glint in her eye.
“Hey sorry I’m late but alarm clock didn’t go off. Or rather it did but Liam turned it off so quick that I didn’t wake and he just went back to sleep. But yeah just a bit! ”
“I know Aria was so excited about it...she rang me five times to ask if I had heard anything.”
I laughed at Carmen who was coming into the room. “Sounds like her! Yeah we’re having a girlie night in on Saturday fancy popping by?”
“Yeah sounds like a plan... I need it after this morning!”
“Why?” I asked Carmen looking at her puzzled.
“Mrs Price’s dog was sick in the kennel.”
“Eww! I give you a hand now. “I said pulling my coat off.
“No it’s fine I’ve cleaned it but the two guinea pigs in the back room could do with cleaning out.”
“Ok I’ll do those now.” I said pushing through the doors and going into the back room to change the bedding. I picked up the two guinea pigs and put them into a holding box whilst I cleaned the cage. It was only half way through that I realised that I was still wearing my ring. I thought about it for a minute as to whether or not to take it off. I didn’t want to damage it but then I didn’t want to lose it. So in the end I decided to keep it on.
I finished cleaning to cage and placed the two back into the pen. And walked back into reception and sat down next to the girls.
“So what’s on the schedule today?”
“Uh..well now at nine we’ve got Mr Chester’s cat in for the snip and other than that nothing. Unless we get emergencies...” Said Halley sifting through the diary.
“Lovely!” I said sarcastically.
“Oh no it doesn’t bother me. I just think of my ex when I’m doing it. Makes it so much more bearable.”
“HALLEY!” Shreiked Carmen with a hint of laughter in her voice.
“Well... can you blame me? I mean I know he had at least three women on the go when he was me. Lying, cheating scum bag.” She ranted on.
“I know. Can’t have been nice to find that out.” I said nervously looking down at the desk.
“Well consider yourself lucky Becks, there isn’t many guys out there like Liam I can tell you. “
“I know.” I smiled. “I am lucky. I just can’t believe I’m getting married it’s like...unbelievable.”
“I know I was the same! When Harry proposed I wasn’t sure if he was joking or not. I think I panicked him when I started laughing but then I saw the look on his face and then I realised he wasn’t joking. Mind you I think I made it obvious when I practically hugged him to the point of strangulation!”
“I know I did that with Liam. Although I’m not sure how because I was still feeling pretty rough after Amy’s wedding.”
“Oh god, don’t talk about that!”
