Chapter 27

For half the ride I fiddled with the promise ring Axel gave me last night, remembering every moment we ever shared.

We pulled over and went to a motel for the night, the ride from Maine to North Carolina was long.

"You okay sweetie?" My mom asked seeing me sitting on the edge of the cheap matress still staring at the ring. I could literally feel the springs on my ass as I sat there.

"Yea I just miss them" I said taking our my phone to text my... I don't even know what to call him, is he still my boyfriend? I look at the and its 10:17, he should still be up.

Me: Heyyy :*

Axel: Hey beautiful. Everything okay?

Me: Yeah its fine, I just miss you guys. What are you guys up to?

Axel: Serena's doing homework and I'm cooking.

Me: Serena's doing homework :-O I've left an impression on that girl. Lol

Axel: Yes, indeed you did lol.

We texted for about an hour then he said he was tired and was going to bed so I decided to watch a movie.

I picked up my laptop and opened the CD-drive to put in Jaws 2, instead I saw a disk already in there marked 'We Love You Cass'. I shrugged and set it to play with my head phones in my ears as not to wake up my mother.

The video was a compilation of me and Serena playing around and me and Axel being together. At the end both of them stood in front of the camera and told me they loved me and put up their pinky saying they will never forget me. My emotions took over and I put up my pinky as well and whispered "I will never forget you guys either." making a virtual pinky promise. I wiped away a tear that rolled down my cheek and decided it was time to get some sleep. I know this sounds like they were stalking me, but its the best gift ever.

I texted Serena, who was most likely asleep and told her that I saw the video and I love it.

The next morning we hit the road again. It was my turn to drive so mom could relax. I missed driving my truck, but Axel said he would keep it. I wasn't used to driving for long times so after two hours I woke mom up and we decided to stop at a Denny's, the good we got from the motel had worn off by now.

After our food stop mom took over the wheel and I laid back in the passenger seat and put on my headphones.

I decided to text Axel even though there was a good chance he wasn't up yet. After 10 minutes I figured he was still sleeping so I closed my eyes and soon drifted off.

Bang! Screams.

That's all I heard and my eyes shot open to see what was going on. My mother's head was against the wheel and there was glass all over her head. I started shaking and crying. I picked up my phone and call ed the police and told them what happened.

While I was doing this a man came over to me and kept saying he's sorry but I didn't care. Him being sorry wasn't helping my mom.

The cops arrived with an ambulance. They took my mom into the ambulance to check her vitals and everything

"Excuse me, I know this is hard for you right now but can you tell us anything that happened?" One if the cops asked me.

"I was asleep. You know resting for my shift to drive." I explained.

"Okay, where were you guys headed?" She asked.

"Charlotte, North Carolina, we're moving there. Well the u-Haul with our things is already down there." I told the woman, glancing over at the ambulance because they just closed the doors.

"Okay thank you." She says walking away. Is she not going to do anything thing about this, she just turned to walk away.

"Hey, can you tell me where we are?" I asked looking around the highway, my vision blurred from missing glasses
