Ch. 15

You turn on the TV in your living room, changing the channel to find some movie or show that was interesting to watch. The time and date on your phone read 11:45 AM; October 24, 2019. You groaned and then tapped on your little Health app. My period is coming soon.

"Great." You muttered and then set your phone beside you. You never liked having your periods. They were the worst. One day you had very bad cramps, it felt like you were being constantly stabbed by needles in your abdominal area and it would be painful. Lasting almost an entire day. Despite dealing with the forbidden jelly and those little bursts when you laughed, sneezed or stood up, you don't like dealing with the unexpected cramps that would target that one area. Every. Time. And at random too.

You sigh as you couldn't find a good channel so you get up from the sofa and head into your kitchen to make some breakfast. Grabbing a bowl and then the box of Raisin Bran and the milk. You pour the cereal first into the bowl then the milk, putting them both away before grabbing a spoon and heading into the living room. You hadn't realized you left the channel on the news. As you were crunching, you hear the news anchor talking about a missing person.

"No way." You say. You drop your spoon as you see a photo of the girl that you first met when you were at Jimin's birthday.

"Breaking news, 21 year old Im Soyeon is reported missing. She was last seen leaving her apartment building last Monday night. Wearing a gray long coat, navy blue denim jeans and black colored knee high boots. The latest description of her appearance is ash blonde hair cut shoulder length. She stands at 164 centimeters and weighs about 32 kilograms."

You set your bowl of cereal down and then dial Jimin's number. The line rings three times before he answers.

"Jimin, turn your TV on and watch the news."

"Why?"

"You know that girl I didn't like at your birthday party?"

"So Yeon."

"Her. She's missing."

"What!?"

"Yeah. She's reported a missing person."

"You're joking!"

On the screen was her photo. They used a photo from her Facebook account and it showed her new hair color. Ash blonde with minimal makeup and a floral shirt. From the looks of it, this was recent. You couldn't believe that someone you knew and just met was kidnapped. This had your skin break out in goosebumps followed by a shivering chill.

"No way. The last time I spoke to her was when I had bumped into her near the elevators last week."

"Did she tell you where she was going?"

"She didn't say but she seemed elated. I think she was going to meet someone."

"Who?"

"I'm not sure. She was just very excited and couldn't wait to go."

"Well she lives here and police are surely going to come here to ask questions." You bit at your bottom lip, tentatively paying attention to the news. "Do you know where she goes to work?"

Jimin remained silent. Probably in thought and also trying not to be too distracted by the news.

"So Yeon told me that she worked as a waitress nearby. Some fancy bar and restaurant."

"Did she have any close friends that you knew of?"

"I never really paid attention to her. Only person she'd openly talk about is Jung Kook and what they used to do together."

There was a pause between you and Jimin. You felt horrible about this. You didn't like her but you felt bad for calling her a witch behind her back a few times. Your heart sank and the frown on your face was growing. You heaved out a small sigh.

"I feel terrible Jimin."

"Why?"

"Ever since the first day I met her, I never liked her. Now that she's missing, I wished I could have attempted to be friends with her."

"Ji Eun, it's okay. I didn't like her either and I feel bad as well. But I pray to the heavens she's alright."

You felt tears coming and the lump in your throat growing. You were a sensitive person and when you begin to feel guilty or alone, your tears would show and you'd feel a weight over your shoulders.

"I hope she's safe and that she's found soon.." You manage to say without crying. "I pray to God that she's not hurting too much."

"I still can't believe she's been missing this whole time."

You watched as the news anchor spreads more awareness to this missing person report and to contact police if they've seen her.

"Me either." You turn the TV off, a horrible thought comes to mind. "Jimin, what if it's the same person that sent me texts? What if they kidnapped So Yeon as a warning for me? That I'm next."

"Don't worry Ji Eun. I'm here for you. No one is going to kidnap you."

"So Yeon was taken without anyone even noticing until now! How are you so sure I won't be kidnapped?"

"Ji Eun, listen to me. No one is going to kidnap you. I won't let the creep go anywhere near you. Don't let this scare you too much."

It was hard for you not to panic. And what Jimin was saying sounded so absurd. Of course this will scare you, how can you not be terrified at the thought of being kidnapped next?

"Jimin, could you spend the night here?" You ask in a quivering tone.

"Sure. I'll stop by tonight. I have to help Jungkook with something. And always remember, as long as I'm around, no one will hurt you."

You nod, "Okay."

The thought of Jimin sleeping here at your place was calming enough and you were happy to have company. So Hee hasn't been stopping by to visit. Barely calls or texts you either. Her dad's been keeping her busy, especially with her studies.

"Alright Ji Eun. After I'm finished helping Jungkook. I'll let you know when I'm heading over."

"Okay oppa. Take care."

"You too."

You both hang up and then you sigh as you pull your legs into your chest to hold them. Preoccupied by the news. So Yeon. We never started off on good terms but I pray to God you're alright. You shut off the TV, biting at your bottom lip. You kept worrying about So Yeon's well being. Wondering if she were alive or dead. A stranger you never were close to, had this much effect on you. It scared you so much how you or Jimin failed to notice that she was missing.

"God," You say. You couldn't handle the weight from the fear and worry. So you did what you would do when you felt fear, worry, and anxiety crawling around you. You prayed. "Please watch over Im So Yeon. Please keep her safe and protected. Watch over her, wherever she is and let no harm come to her. I know that I wasn't the nicest person towards her, I do feel bad about it. But Lord, please please let good news be heard that she is one day found alive and well. Amen."

You take a deep breath.

"Please be safe, So Yeon."
