I returned in the afternoon to a cold and empty house. Head numb, I sat down at my laptop and started looking through my emails.

The new projects and themes had come in so I set to work to distract myself.

In my uniform, I laid down on my bed and let the time run by as I typed away.

I heard the door open downstairs but ignored it for my own sanity.

"Hey." Amber greeted me in a guilty tone.

"Hey..." I looked up at the unexpected conversation.

"You were called to the principal's office. You and Luna have to meet her tomorrow." She set down her bag and stared at the window.

My heart sank through the floor and my legs froze. "Ohh." I hummed, trying to sit up.

"Last month's report card was sent out today," she fished out a file and extended it to me.

I took it from her and thanked her. Opening it, I let out a sigh of relief. This ought to hold out my parents' rage for a little while.

"Miss Song congratulated you on topping the English class." She sat down, facing me. Her eyes flickered as she tried to look at me.

"Thanks." I pressed my lips together.

"Do you really like me?" She whimpered as she closed her eyes.

"Sure, as a friend." I said in a morbid fashion, closing the file and setting it next to the open laptop.

She almost let out a chuckle. "You know there is no use lying to me, right?" Her brown eyes met mine as the sunlight spilled over her outline, creating a halo.

"I don't want anything out of confessing how I feel about you. Well, I don't need to confess. But I could if it helps your ego." I looked away, unable to look directly at her.

"You're being weird." She spoke after a brief pause.

"Thanks for noticing." I leaned back against the head of the bed, stretching out my legs in front of me.

"Do you really want nothing out of your non confession?" She moved closer to me.

"What are you getting at?" My body perked up but I hid it with a calm voice.

"I don't understand you." She ran her hand along my cheek, the warm pads of her fingers grazing my pink skin.

"What are you doing?" I breathed out, closing my eyes as an unanticipated silence washed out my thoughts.

"Why? Why do you act the way you do, Y/N?" The heat from her body grew more intense, she moved closer till we were just a couple of inches apart.

I opened my eyes and they took a moment to focus on her graceful features.

"Why?" She whispered, focusing on my pupils, one at a time.

"Amber-" I swallowed. "You're a little too close."

"Why?" She grabbed me by the chin and tilted her head.

"If we're in a Q&A, how do you feel about my non confession?" I said as comprehensively as I could, a small smile in my eyes.

"I don't know." She shut down that line of conversation.

I sighed inwardly, letting my heavy eyelids fall. "And yet you question my reasoning?"

"You expected that, so why are you surprised?" She let me go.

"You already know the answer, why are you bothering with the questions?" I got up from the bed and picked up my laptop.

"You had hope." She as if it was matter of fact.

"You know everything!" My pitch swung a little higher.

"I don't, I can't understand why you act the way way you do." She clicked her tongue.

"Why do you need to know?" I asked, sitting down at the study table.

"Cause you're irrational and ..." The sentence faded out.

"And?" I prompted her to go on.

"Nothing." She stood up and walked out the door in a hurry.

Her accusations of being weird described her behaviour more than mine right now.

I changed out of the uniform and got into grey sweats and a black tee, after a shower. With my damp hair in a towel, I sat down next to the bookshelf in the empty room.

Picking out the case of 'The Craft', I stared at the picture of my sister as a child. She always did hate masculine clothes, I thought back. She used to ask mom to buy her the dresses she bought me.

I missed her. I missed her badly.

Walking over to the study table, I picked up my phone. She had sent me a message to greet me good morning.

I replied and set down the phone again.

What was I going to do? What if this got around to my parents? They will definitely kick me out.

I had to device a plan in case it came to that.

"By the way-" Amber rushed into the room, winded after running up the straits.

I turned around at her voice.

"Don't be mad at your sister." She said as she pushed back the start hair on her face.

"I am not." I defended myself.

"Stop lying to me, Y/N. It's useless." She leaned against the doorway.

"Why do keep saying these weird unrelated things?" I asked her as I pushed my hand against my forehead. "You are making me anxious."

"I don't know." She spoke after a pause.

Silence fell over the room.

"Can I ask you something stupid?" I looked at her dark silhouette as the sun hid behind the gray clouds outside.

"Go ahead." Excitement laced her musical voice.

"Do you wanna run away with me?" My facial muscles immediately twisted to a painful fake smile as I heard my words.

The tears flooded my sight and blurred her figure.

"Forget I said that." I turned away and gulped.

I felt overwhelmed by the thoughts raging a storm inside me. I laid back against the shelf.

Hugs and kisses from Cheonsa.
