I walked back into class as the last period was ending. Their eyes were burning into my back as I sat down in the first row.

The bell broke the tension and the evening prayer followed. As the students were piling out of the classroom, Amber turned to me.

"Where were you the last two periods? And what happened? You look like you have seen a ghost." She commented like we packed our bags.

"It was this briefing about, about the littering on school grounds. We were asked to help with making a few posters to put on the bulletin boards." I made up an excuse.

"Okay ..."

We walked through the nearly deserted corridors to the conference room. We entered and sat down along with the other members of the team for the short film competition. It was packed.

"Good afternoon everyone!" Krystal spoke with a wide smile. "We are all here for for the short film project." She explained the competition once again.

After the introduction, the floor was open for pitches and discussions. I waited for someone to start but they all seemed shy.

I raised my hand and stood up. "Hello! My name is Y/N. I would like to present a concept for our project." I walked up to the front and grabbed a marker.

I wrote out the theme in bold letters and circled it. "The theme I am proposing is Fantasy." I had planted the seeds of curiosity in them.

"If we look at movies geared towards teenagers, we often see an exaggeration or dramatisation of actions or events." I spotted Amber's proud face in the crowd pushing me to do my best. "And maybe this has effected how we view our own lives or maybe it's just how we are naturally programmed but we often view our own lives in such a dramatic light. We can use the medium of film to explore this aspect - escapism - of our lives. We can use the concept of magical realism to convey our theme."

The chatter was fading in. "Magical realism is when we paint a realistic world in literature with elements of magical nature to heighten the experience of the audience. For example, one scene that we could do is one with our protagonist sitting in their room, alone, headphones in and a building beat fades in, at the peak we cut to a music video aesthetic, maybe just them in an empty auditorium, in a gorgeous outfit standing with a mic in hand, the beat continues. Suddenly a knock, we cut back to the protagonist sitting in their room, the camera whips to the door and someone enters." I explained while making simple sketches on the board. "This is just an example. This sort of a style could really bring out our most creative sides." I sounded robotic because of my nerves.

I turned to Krystal, who seemed pleased with my presentation.

"We could use a high school student as a protagonist. Maybe they are coming to a new school." My eyes drifted to Amber. "I would love to hear in what directions you guys want to take the theme." I walked back to seat and sat down.

I was proud of myself. I had faith in this idea.

"We could also do something like a student taking part in a school play. That way, we have the constant magical second world of the play to cut to." A student spoke, facing me.

"That's an excellent idea. It can easily become our motif." I responded with a wide smile.

"Building on that idea, we can show the protagonist reading the script for the first time and how they build up the overall appearance of their character as they read it, using solid cuts while rotating the camera around the actor." Another voice arose.

"I'll write down that idea if everyone is open to considering it for our project." Krystal stood up and looked around the table.

I heard yes being muttered by the majority and my heart elated. The idea could become a reality.

"Okay! That's a good start." The president of the film club smiled at me.

"Thank you, Sulli!" I mouthed at her.

We spend the next hour and half running through the different proposals. Just before we dispersed for the day, we narrowed down the list to three themes: Fantasy, Growing up and Peer pressure.

"I think your idea has a good chance." Amber told me as we walked out of the room.

"You're too sweet!" I hugged her tightly. "You head home, okay? I have to stay back for an hour or two for the poster thing. What time is it now?"

"Four o'clock." She looked surprised. "You must be tired. It's only the first day."

"Well, you know school. Hectic as always!" I said while walking in the opposite direction. "See you!"

"See you!" She waved at me. "Hey Sulli!" She turned to her new friend.

Taking my chance, I sneaked out to the deserted sports centre. I stood behind a tree as I waited for her to arrive.

Sulli is here! RIP our angel. We love you! ❤️❤️

Hugs and kisses from Cheonsa.
