Chapter 9

"Hello, Ma." Bati ko kay Mama nang sagutin ang tawag nya.

Tumayo naman ako at iniwan si Hugo sa hapag-kainan. Sofia is now sleeping so we can peacefully eat our dinner. I felt Hugo's eyes on me so I involuntarily looked at him. He is looking at me with his curious almond eyes so I immediately looked away as I find it uncomfortable.

"Nasan ka na?" Tanong ni Mama kaya bumuntong-hininga ako.

"Pasensya na, Ma kung hindi kita agad naabisuhan." Panguna ko. "I can't go home for this weekend." Dagdag ko pa.

Sa bahay kasi ako tumutuloy kapag weekend kaya naman siguradong hinihintay na ako nina Mama. As much as I want to go home, I just can't leave Hugo... alone with Sofia.

"Ha? Bakit?"

Sa tanong na iyon ni Mama ay mabilis akong lumingon kay Hugo. He is silently eating but I can sense that his ears are on me.

"Medyo busy lang, Ma. I'll just visit you soon, 'kay?" Malambing kong sabi at alam ko namang naiintidihan ako ni Mama.

"Your Mom does not know this?" Hugo asked in a low voice when I went back in the dining.

Tinaasan ko naman sya ng kilay pero seryoso lang nya akong tinignan.

"I don't want her to freak her out. She's too eager to have a grandchild." Masungit kong sabi bago nag-simulang kumain ulit.

"She might take care of Sofia." He concluded so I nodded before looking at him sarcastically.

"Ang swerte mo na lang kase." Sagot ko kaya naman ngumisi sya.

"Am I not lucky yet?" He said while looking at my eyes then he continued eating as if he didn't surprised me with his playful way with words.

"Ang dami mo namang chine-check. Kanina pa yan a." He said as he sat down on the sofa beside mine.

I looked at him blankly before I returned my eyes to the paper.

"If you're here to annoy me then leave. Go to hell." Masungit kong sabi dahil hindi matapos-tapos ang mga papel na binabasa ko.

Dati kasi ay pinapa-check ko lang sa mga estudyante ko ang mga test papers nila pero nang magka-insidente kung saan nahuli ang isang estudyante na dinadaya ang sariling papel ay nag-mandate ang university na ang mga teachers na lang ang mag-check sa mga papel ng mga students nila.

Being a teacher alone is already stressful and time-consuming so these papers got loaded up. So much for a day-off.

"Am I not yet in hell?" He answered that automatically got a glare for a reply.

Before I could even spit bullets, Hugo smirked before putting both of his hands in the air.

"Because it's so hot in here." He said the words in a sexy manner that I forgot he meant it as a joke.

"Damn, you're right." Kunwari'y inis ko na lang na sagot at baka saan pa kami mapunta.

"Chill, Sierra." Hugo laughed so I rolled my eyes. "I'm here to help you." He adddd that made me raise my brow.

"In checking?" I asked in disbelief.

He nodded like a child who was offered a candy. And since I am desperate to have a nice long sleep, I sighed and handed him a green ballpen.

"I believe you are not a CEO for nothing." Sabi ko habang inaabot sa kanya ang isang stack ng test papers.

Sinamaan naman nya ako ng tingin pero seryoso ko lang syang tinignan.
