Chapter 21

Ilang minuto matapos kong ikulong ang sarili sa kwarto ay lumabas ako with full confidence. Naisip ko kasi na hindi ko kailangan magpa-apekto and I should even be happy for them since Sofia will have a complete family, na syang una kong agenda simula pa lang.

Pag-labas ko ay inaasahan kong madadatnan ko silang tatlo pero si Hugo lang ang nag-hihintay sa akin sa dining table. I can't hear anything aside from the tensed atmosphere so I guess Liana and Sofia already left.

Hugo looks worried as hell as he approached me but I just raised my palm to make him stop but he just continued walking until he arrived in front of me. Lahat ng frustration ko dahil sa naudlot naming pag-iisa ay lumipat sa dahilan na hindi nya sinabing may balak pala syang buuin ang pamilya nya. "Pina-alis ko na muna sina Liana para makapag-usap tayo nang maayos." Mahinahon nyang sabi habang naka-tingin sa mga mata ko.

"Okay, let's talk so you can leave already." Malamig kong sabi bago dumiretso sa sala.

Sumunod naman si Hugo at umupo sa pang-isahang sofa. I remember the first time he sat on this sofa and he was asking me if they can live with me but now we are about to end whatever we have.

"Let's start at the very beginning, okay?" He said calmly so I just nodded.

Hugo cleared his throat first before he looked at me in the eyes. Pilit naman akong umiwas ng tingin pero hindi ko mapigilang hindi madala sa sinseridad na pinapakita nya.

"The day you gave Sofia to me, agad ko syang pina-DNA test because of course, it's just normal for me to doubt." He started that made me stare in his eyes. "It came out negative, Sierra. Sofia is not my daughter and the several tests proved that."

Agad na nag-dikit ang mga kilay ko dahil sa sinabi nya pero hindi nag-bago ang seryoso nyang ekspresyon.

"What do you mean? Then why did you--"

Natigilan ako nang may mapag-tanto. Dumoble ang guilt at pag-aalala sa mukha ni Hugo nang makita nya ang reaksyon ko. He used the fact that I know Sofia's his daughter so he can take me. Linoko nya ako.

"Inaamin ko, Sierra..." he trailed off but I just stared at him so he sighed and continued. "Noon una, 'yun ang plano ko. Naisip ko na si Sofia lang ang tanging paraan para matikman ka agad-agad but being with you made me think differently."

I scoffed before shaking my head in disbelief. Lalo namang nag-alala ang mukha nya pero hindi ko ito pinansin at diretso lang syang tinignan.

"You still lied to me, Hugo. Not only to me but also to Sofia. You attached yourself to the child and do you how it will be traumatic for her when she realized you're not her father? She'll get seperation anxiety." I said in a slightly irritated tone knowing that it will be Sofia's who more affected here.

He sighed and tried to meet my eyes. "Liana has been home for quite a while, Sierra and sya ang nag-babantay kay Sofia whenever I'm at work." He said in a low tone.

Tumaas ang dalawang kilay ko dahil hindi ako makapaniwalang nag-sabwatan pa talaga silang dalawa na lokohin ako. After everything I've done for Liana, she still turned her back on me. Kahit hiya yata ay hindi nya naramdaman.
