Special~ Another Job at the Agency

"Emi, there's a case for you," Doppo said while holding an envelope out to me.

I took an envelope and skimmed through it. "I'll be heading out," I said after I grabbed a bag of candy.

I went out and headed to the warehouse district that was noted in the envelope.

Why am I getting the feeling that someone I know is gonna be there...

When I got there my suspicions were proven right. There was a man with short black hair, dark hazel eyes, and a police uniform. He's Kuroka Shiozaki, the kid that I annoyed the most in school. And despite us not liking each other, we were in the same class every year since the 2nd year of middle school.

Almost immediately after he saw me, he visually cringed. "What are you doing here, Kunikida?"

"I'm part of the ADA, Shiozaki," I plainly responded.

"Couldn't they have sent anyone else?" He scoffed.

"Everyone else has other jobs, so no."

*Sigh* He rubbed his temples, probably expecting me to annoy him as much as I did during school. "I guess you'll have to do then." He recomposed himself. "The job is to infiltrate a rising gang's ranks and find proof of their crimes."

"The one in the neighboring district?"

"Yeah. They've been suspected of human trafficking."

"I figured that that was what you were talking about. *Sigh* Why can't I get a challenging case for once?"

"You're more than welcome to leave. I'd be happy if you did." He gestured for me to leave with a forced smile.

"Do you know how dangerous infiltrating a gang like them is? If you get caught, you'd be killed or trafficked yourself." I raised a brow.

"And you're saying that you wouldn't," he said with a 'yeah right face.

"If they had some way to overpower me then, they would. But, I highly doubt that they do and either way, I'd be completely fine."

He got an irk mark. "You saying that you think you're better than me?"

"Not really." I shrugged. "I'm just confident in my abilities. And. I'm part of the ADA for good reasons."

"Why are you not trying to annoy me? It's unsettling." He looked at me like he was thinking that I'd act like my old self.

"It's been four years since we've even seen hide or hair of each other, I've made friends that changed me, for better or for worse."

"What? More animals that you claim to talk to?"

"I learned how to befriend my own species. And you'll see soon enough that I don't just claim to be able to talk to animals. Anyway, shouldn't we get started on the job?" I pulled out a sucker and stuck it in my mouth.

"Yeah. Let's hurry and get this over with."

We got ready and disguised ourselves as gang members and infiltrated their numbers smoothly.

The job was going just fine until we were in their record room and footsteps started coming down the hall.

"Shit. We need to hide," I cursed.

"Wha-" Shiozaki started but I cut him off.

"Now!" I whisper-shouted.

We found some hiding spots just before they came in. They were talking about getting a file on a person that they were going to kidnap next. It was a good thing that I had a sound recorder on me because that would be good evidence. After they left, we got out of our hiding spots.
