Ringing vibrated through her ears as she collapsed on the floor besides Rick. Her body connected with the ground hard and she shouted out in pain as her arm collided with the rubble, sending a wave of nausea through her body. Cries and screams echoed around her and the repeated sound of feet running across the grounds of Alexandria could be heard for miles.
"Get back now!" Rick shouted, barely audible above the noise. The dead began to invade the town faster than anyone could anticipate, swarming the two adults quickly.
He gripped Lou's shoulder and hoisted her from the ground, placing a hand on the small of her back and pushing her away from prying hands. She didn't have chance to gain her balance before she was pulled off her feet again by a 'walker'.
"Everybody back now!" Rick shouted again, taking out the decaying corpse that towered over her. "Back into your homes!"
Louise kicked the body from on top of her and scrambled to her feet, her mind finally taking in the situation and allowing her to take control of her limbs. She yanked her gun from her holster and aimed for the closest walking dead. "Rick!"
"You have to go back"
"We have to go back" she insisted, shooting the 'walker' directly in front of the sheriff. "Come on!"
"Lets go!" Deanna demanded, coming up behind them.
Lou nodded at her and the three took off towards the closest house, repeatedly firing at the endless bodies that threw themselves at their meals. She lifted her leg and connected her boot with the closest torso, kicking it backwards. The butt of her gun cracked into its skull and she swiftly turned the gun around and pierced its forehead with a bullet. Rick kept his back to her, ensuring both sides of their group were covered as they ran to safety.
They were a few meters away from a house when Deanna was knocked off her feet. Her body was sent tumbling and she landed on top of a wooden pallet, the sharp splinters embedding into the flesh between her ribs.
"Deanna!" Lou shouted, turning around. 'Walker's' had swarmed Deanna's frame, clawing at her pale skin and gurgling. Lou swung her leg out and kicked the crawling corpse in the face before aiming her gun and shooting the second. She held her hand out and pulled Deanna up from the ground, helping her limp towards the house as she held onto her bleeding side. "Are you alright?"
Carl and Nicole joined them, closely followed by a member of Rick's group who sliced effortlessly through the walking dead with her katana.
"Michonne!" Rick called out, warning her as she spun on her heel and took a blood covered head off a pair of shoulders.
Cries continued to fuel Lou's motivation and as they were quickly surrounded. One by one she killed them, shooting through skull and bone until she made a big enough gap for them to run. Rick lifted Deanna up, cautious that she was slowing them down and carried her the rest of the way.
"Come on! I got Judith!" a female voice said, beckoning them to move quickly. They dived over the threshold and Lou waisted no time in barricading the doors. She kept her back pressed against the wood as Michonne pushed a china cabinet in front of it. It scraped across the floor boards loudly before dropping to an angle and resting against the wall and the entrance.
"Jessie, you alright?" Rick asked quickly, directing his question at the woman that helped them before nodding towards the woman in his arms.
"Put her on the couch" Lou said before Jessie corrected her.
"No, take her upstairs"
He followed Jessie's instructions. He carried her up the stairs and kicked open the first door on the left.
