"Where's Lola?" I ask Luke with a slight smirk as I set my lunch down opposite of him.
"Piss off."
"Who's Lola?" Amanda asks first and I let my smirk show a bit more, happy to irritate him.
"The love of his life."
"Funny, aren't you today?" He asks me and I just look at him.
"I have always been, you only noticed it now though."
"That's a load. We all know that I am the funny one here." Sammy interrupts us once he gets to our table as well and we all say in union, "No."
I notice Amelia and Amanda talking in hushed voices beside me, an action that doesn't go unnoticed by the others. Expecting the two boys to make them aware of their attention, but nothing happening, I clear my throat.
Amelia's head whips towards me with a slight glare but I keep my face natural. "Everything alright?"
"Peachy."
Her best friend gives her a slight nudge and Amelia sighs. "Sorry. It's just this teacher is really stressing me out."
I don't buy her lie but decide to not comment on it.
"Next time don't try to take it out on somebody else." All our eyes turn to Luke, even Sammy seems surprised by his best mate, who usually keeps quiet and refrains from any conversation. He doesn't really seem affected by his rude remark but the fact that he doesn't glance at me in order to be met by a perplexed look, tells me otherwise.
"I know. Sorry again, Hailey." Amelia eventually speaks up once more, switching her focus from Luke and back to me.
"No worries."
The tension at the table has shifted and become more prominent. I don't know if the reason for this is because of Luke, but I have a feeling that it goes a little bit deeper than that.
"Now tell me, how's Lola?" Sammy exclaims and I burst out laughing at his scowl.
"It's name is not Lola."
"But I though you didn't like Samantha?" I say with emphasis as I try to contain my chuckles miserably.
"I don't."
"Well then it's Lola." I state while I cross my arms.
"Just- good God. You're unbelievably annoying, do you know that?" I rest my chin against my hand with a smirk.
"But you still love me."
"And what about me, mate? I thought it was bros before hoes."
"Both of you. Piss off."
He stands up and I lean a little bit closer to Sammy, "Even though you just called me a hoe, we both know that he did not deny it." My voice was loud enough for Luke to hear and I catch him rolling his eyes before walking away.
"Can I talk to you for a sec?" Amanda pulls me aside on my way to my room after classes.
"Sure." I agree and follow her. She stops in the corner at the end of my opposite hall for us to talk and not be disturbed by all the other teens.
"So, she will probably murder me for this and hate me forever, but I mean she can't stay mad at me for long so I should be fine but-"
"Just tell me." I interrupt her mumbled rambling for both of our sake.
"Yes, right. Amelia's jealous of you."
"Pardon me?" Jealous? Of me? How? Why? Wha-
"Well, not only of you. It's more that you and Luke are suddenly so close and she's afraid that you will take him away from her."
