Luke's POV
I touch the empty spot on her bed next to me, my eyes open when I realise that it is exactly that. Empty. Where is Hailey?
I look around, checking the time on my phone screen. It's already 10 o'clock, she must be eating breakfast downstairs. Only, that I don't hear any noises. No TV. No grandmothers chatting. No dishes clinking together. It's complete and utter silence. What the hell is going on?
I get out of bed and put on a shirt, quickly walking down the hall to Sammy's room. When I open his door, I am greeted by an empty but unmade bed which lets some of my nerves calm down. At least his mess seems normal.
Feeling suspicious, I decide to check all the other rooms, finding nothing but freshly made and untouched beds. When I go to open the door to Sophie's room, I hear muttering coming from downstairs and thank the lord that this is not some post-apocalyptic dream. Though, I do sneak a quick glance into her room, just to be sure.
The closer I get to the living room down the stairs, the more the muttering turns into hushed whispers, followed by the thick tension that hits me like a truck when I set my foot down on the ground, catching everyone's attention.
My eyes wander around the mixture of faces and stop on Sammy's.
"What the hell is going on?" I ask them, cutting straight to the case and not bothering to beat around the bush with a quirky 'good morning' the way that Hailey always did. How can she be such a morning person? Wait- My eyes scan the room once more, spotting that she is not here with all the others.
"And where is Hailey?" My voice is dominant, booming through the silent room as no one answers me for a minute.
"Somewhere where you can't hurt her all over again." Mike snaps and my eyebrows furrow.
"What are you talking about? I would never-"
"Purposely hurt her? Spare me of your crap." He interrupts me and I am taken aback. I have never experienced Mike this furious. What have I done to make him act this way?
"Would you care to tell me why all of you have the privilege to know something about my girlfriend and I don't?" I cross my arms, feeling annoyed that all they are doing is to stare with their judgemental eyes and not help me understand what their fucking problem is.
"You don't get to cheat on my daughter and claim that you love her." Mike is in my face and I notice Marie pulling him back by his arm.
"Mike, calm down and let him explain." She gives me a reassuring look but can't mask the fact that she wants to cut my dick off.
My throat feels like it's closing more with every second that I don't dare to speak.
"I-"
"You what?"
"I wanted to tell her everything about the stupid kiss, I really did, but at the same time... I just-" I sigh, "I didn't want to lose her for something that wasn't my fault." I answer Mike, hating myself for sounding so vulnerable.
"How in the world is cheating not your fault? Sammy showed us the video."
"What video?" My eyes snap to my best mate who hands me his phone and I press play. Then, tbey widen while my chest fills with anger.
"Shit." I run my hands though my hair, pulling at it.
"Yeah." Sammy comments and I look at Mike.
"This is not what it looks like," He just scoffs but I continue before he gets the chance to interrupt me again, "I pushed her away the second I realised what was going on."
