Chapter 6 - More Lies

Marinette walked to school, ready for another day. She felt decisively better than yesterday. Chat had cheered her up and she hoped that today would be a better day. Everything changed once she got to school.

Adrien was hoping that he had made Marinette a bit happier and that he would get a chance to talk to her at school about what she said... he never knew why she acted so strangely around him, turns out she liked him... but he was still confused about what she said, he wasn't dating anyone. Yes, Kagami was growing closer but he still refused getting into a relationship with her because well... my heart still belongs to Ladybug, he thought. He wouldn't want to date someone as a second choice.

The car stopped and Adrien got out. As he walked into the school grounds he saw almost all of the people in his class crowding around the headmaster. Curious about what was happening, he walked closer to the group and upon hearing a few snatches of conversation he was absolutely shocked. The only thing he could think of was, What did Marinette ever do to Lila?

Marinette realised something was wrong when she entered the school. Her whole class was standing in one group around the headmaster and upon seeing her glared at her.

"Miss Dupain-Cheng, you have acted cruelly towards poor Miss Rossi. She almost had a heart attack when you scared her as a joke. You know how fragile she is. We know of this story thanks to Lila telling an adult she trusts, who then told me."

Marinette looked very confused at what her headmaster was saying but he continued. "I am disappointed in you. You could have achieved great things, but I have to tell you. Miss Dupain-Cheng you are hereby expelled from this school."

Marinette looked at him incredulously, then she looked around at her class who were glaring at her more than ever. She looked at Nino and Alya with an almost pleading expression but they just glared back.

"Miss Dupain-Cheng you may leave the school now." At this Marinette turned around to hide the tears now streaking down her cheeks.

Adrien saw how she looked completely bewildered as the headmaster was talking and when he sent her away she turned around without a word. Alya and Nino did not try to protect her nor comfort her. So that was what he was going to do.

"Marinette! Wait!" Adrien was calling her but as she heard his voice she just ran away sobbing. She would have to go home and tell her parents what happened if they didn't already know.

She ran away at his words and he knew there was no point following her, she would just run further. She didn't want to talk to Adrien after all. So he decided to 'go to the bathroom' and transform. Her ran quickly trough the streets following the bobbing pigtails. I should have told the teachers about Lila. He carried on jumping, I'll worry about that later. He jumped closer to the balcony. He had to check if she was coping okay. It must be horrible for her, mainly because she didn't do anything at all.

Marinette had arrived home, burst through the door and, without saying anything to her parents, she ran up to her room.

She dropped down on her bed and started crying. She didn't even try to stop. Her thoughts were racing in her head. Why? Why does all this have to happen to me? What have I ever done to Lila? 

Why can't someone else be Ladybug? I'm not even good enough for her job. I messed up and now I just have another responsibility on my shoulders. I'm not good enough for Adrien, that's why he chose Kagami. I can see why. I'm useless, boring and ugly. Who would ever want me?

"Marinette, it'll be okay," Tikki gently spoke to her, "Just calm down and we can tell Mr. Damocles what a big misunderstanding this is. Adrien can back you up, he knows the truth about Lila," She was trying to talk to Marinette but she couldn't hear her over the thoughts that kept coming and coming.

Only when Marinette saw something fly towards her did she quiet down. It was a purple butterfly, beautiful and terrible at the same time. It flew towards her.

The last thing she heard was a cry of agony before the darkness swallowed her.
